News Season 2 poster released, January release confirmed

I'm thinking it does because of two things: Spock's involvement, and it just looks more like wings to me than the tentacles coming out of that trailer creature.

It's the same shape though, and I don't think they look like tentacles.

I think if you go in expecting Romulans your going to be disappointed.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the thing in the middle of the emblem was a phoenix, perhaps foreshadowing a resurrection (Culber? Lorca?). Whatever it is, I don't think it will (or should) have anything to do with Romulans, particularly in the pre-TOS era, though that didn't stop ENT.

Just because there wasn't any 'Official' Star Fleet contact with the Romulans until "The Balance of Terror", doesn't mean they weren't out there still being nefarious.
They are a frickin' CONQUERING EMPIRE on the boarders of the Klingons & Federation, I never understood why people think the Romulans were just invisible for all those years since the Earth/Romulan War.
Also, Season-2 of DISCOVERY is going to take the ship a heck of a long distance away from Federation Territory, there's no telling who or what they will run into.

They're going to have to confront the problem of using Stamets as a navigation computer at some point, which will have to factor into Pike-man's need to consume special red dots all over the galactic maze. Because there may be a ghost or two following that ship around.

The Romulan War was fought pre-TOS. Enterprise was set in the same Century as the Romulan War. Why wouldn't the Romulans show up there?

It's a phoenix.

Furthermore: if Discovery's mission is classified, then there's no reason they can't encounter the Romulans before the Enterprise.

If they do, I'd rather see it handled the way they did on ENT - IE Romulans masquerading as Vulcans (Yes, the audience knows, but the actual chatacters, not so much.) ;)

I'm sure they'll run into the Borg, Kazon, Cardassians, Bajorans, Ferengi, Hirogen, Founders, Jem'Hadar...

CBS - "Write to the checklist we gave you..."

point taken, but let's be realistic, not even the producers of voyager wanted to write about the kazon.

A race capable of interstellar flight, but not finding drinking water.
sometimes one wanted to scream at the tv "It's dihydrous monoxide you idiots. two of the most common freaking elements in the universe. its literally everywhere"

I'm going to be upset if they do something like the Ferengi episode of ENT... spending the whole episode with an alien species we all know, but never finding out their name.

I'm expecting Romulans, but if they don't appear, I won't be disappointed. In fact, I'd be pleased. I'd be disappointed if I see them! I don't post to try to win a prize for prediction.

The Romulans are strange. When they're not there, I don't feel like I miss them. Yet most of their appearances are among Star Trek's best.

I think you can see Romulans in DSC. They just have to be in the Klingon's neck of the woods. There was no contact between the Federation and Romulans. Doesn't mean there wasn't any between the Romulans and the Klingons. Maybe L'Rell has a new enemy to turn the Empire against? I'm not actually suggesting they do this or think they will. Just open speculation.

"But they're allies in this time!" Not yet, as far as we know. And alliances shift so fast, it doesn't matter. They can shift, shift back, so on, and so forth.

Are the Klingons and Romulans being allies canon? I always thought that was fan theory

There absolutely was a Romulan logo on a tent in that Orion enclave on Quonos in the final episode of last season.
