DC launching digital service with Titans and Young Justice

The emphasis here is obviously on the TV shows and movies, which makes sense since that is where the money actually is. I don't know how well it will work, but I can see where they are coming from with the comics section. It seems to me that the comics aren't there for people to read everything, they're just there for the fans to see where the characters or storylines came from.
As for some being free and needing to pay for others, that's actually how a lot of digital content is handled. I noticed with the e-books of ongoing series that the first tend to be really cheap, and offened even but up for fee occaisionally, but as you go on the books get more expensive.
Comixology also has a subscription service where you can get free comics, and it's the same as DC Universe, you can get the first handful of issues or trades of a run for free, but after a few of each you have to start paying for them.
It's obviously not the nicest thing to do, but they're just trying make it easy for you to get hooked, so you'll be more likely to spend more money on the series as you go along.

I think the obvious idea there is if you like it, you might buy the rest of it.

You're looking at this from the perspective of wanting something like Marvel Unlimited, and I get that, but surely you realize that that is a very niche market, most people simply don't need to have an entire back catalog of tens of thousands of comics available to them at any given moment.

DCU is aiming for much broader appeal, from more casual readers of comics to non readers. For the price of less than 2 monthlies you get a new episode (or two) of a brand new show every week, older shows and movies to stream as you choose, and hundreds(if not thousands) of comics available and rotating so there's always something new.

I think that's a very fair offer for what one gets, and I don't think it's unreasonable to offer to sell more comics for those who want more, or to build their own personal permanent collection. You seem to think that this makes comics an afterthought here, but I'd argue that trying to get people into habit of buying comics again is indeed thinking of the survival of the industry that's slowly but surely flagging.

And sure, from the consumer side, it would be much better if everything was available, but that's just not very realistic to expect. Don't get me wrong, if what is on offer is not satisfactory to you, that's perfectly fine, and I'm absolutely not trying to convince you that you should get it, I just think you're way of base here in thinking that there's no market for it, or that their approach makes no business sense.

I hear you and agree, it's just... while it's a very fair offer for what they are offering, I'm not interested in what they are offering. Which, of course, is my problem. Other than Doom Patrol, I'm not that interested in any of the new shows, I've seen the old shows, and I don't want to purchase digital comics... which is weird, I don't mind buying digital books... but, then, I can get more bang for my buck from a digital book than a digital comic...

I think my frustration is they are like just adjacent to what I want... I want a DC unlimited, basically, and the shows are a bonus for me, not the other way around.

But, honestly, I think their approach makes a logical sense, but, there hasn't been much history to show that TV watching will lead to more comics reading. And besides, other than creating the IP, comics aren't as profitable as TV. But, maybe this will be the thing that will make it work.

DC continues to make odd decisions that seem to reflect a resistance to awarding fan loyalty. In May digital codes were removed from their physical comics, which means that you would essentially have to purchase two separate comics if you wanted both physical and digital editions. Why would they do that?

It did for me, the main reason I even read comics is a desire to see the original versions of all of the characters who have been getting TV shows and movies. The only reason I bought comics focused on characters like Mockingbird, Hellcat, Judge Dredd, Hellboy or Harley Quinn is because of how much I enjoyed their movie/TV appearances.

The whole reason I got back into comics in recent years was by rediscovering the joys of George Reeves's Superman and Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman on MeTV.

I was almost hoping for an international version of DC Universe, as they hinted at looking into this (and we don't have many of the old shows anywhere, Batman TAS didn't even get a DVD release in Germany, the first two seasons of Justice League were never released here at all), but Netflix is a very good second choice to get this. Especially for me, as I already have Netflix.

What was the point of casting for the Titans episode "Doom Patrol" if 99% of that cast is being replaced for the series it's supposed to be a backdoor pilot for?

Other voices in Harley Quinn include Alan Tudyk (Suburgatory), Lake Bell (Children’s Hospital), Ron Funches (Undateable), JB Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Jason Alexander (Seinfeld), Wanda Sykes (black-ish), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Natalie Morales (Parks and Recreation), Jim Rash (Community), Diedrich Bader (The Drew Carey Show), Tony Hale (Arrested Development) and Chris Meloni (Happy!).

I wonder why they aren't specifying who's playing what role in Harley Quinn (though it's obvious from the clip that Diedrich Bader is reprising Batman).

So the voice of Harley Quinn jumps from one Big Bang Theory actress to another.

And they're both horrible. At least the other actress could kind of do an accent that kind of sounded remotely like harley. Margot Robbie sounded more like Harley Quinn then these BBT actresses. Poison Ivy sounded like a 15 year old goth girl from a high school based TV show or movie.

Hiring Diedrich Bader is awesome, but he's wasted (and I doubt he'll show up much). So, that's three strikes against DC for me (Doom Patrol counts because its the same shit as Titans).

does anyone remember when DC was the king of superhero TV, both live action and animation (although at different times)? It feels like it was literally a life time ago.
