Series 11 News & Spoilers

While the pop music in the adds have been bad does anyone think they will really be using that stuff in any episodes? Somehow I don't see the Doctor rocking out to that kind of music. Maybe one of the new characters will like it but I really don't think it's going to be anything bigger than maybe Amy Pound using Twitter or something like that. At least that's my hope. I want the show still have a timeless feel to it so it's not so ovious years later what year the show was being made.

Jason
Not really.

Listening to the composers music on soundcloud (free btw) should give you a good idea what the new sound of the show‘s music could be.

No. Marketing is all about hooking the audience and getting their attention. A familiar and recent pop song will do that, even though it's probably not representative of the show.

Ratings don't differentiate between joyful watching, watching and hate watching. They only record eyeballs. More eyeballs, more support. More support, more things just like the thing you are watching without "supporting it."

That's not exactly what I meant.

I would never have guessed. But, I'm glad to hear that. I would love to read more of that.

I'd like to write more positive stuff about Doctor who, but we've probably got at least five years before I can, outside of talking about Doctor Who episodes that are Pre-Chibnail.

Troughton's most certainly did. In fact that Doctor suffered from it for their entire tenure. That's why they had to use Hartnell's 500 year diary as a guide book.

When the actor change over was originally devised memory loss was one of things the character was suppose to suffer from. It's not out right stated but it's pretty much spelled out in the scene you're referring to. Two asks if the Doctor had a dairy and after they find it they use it as a guide book (because they no longer have memories of those events) from that point onward.

BS. The 2nd Doctor was not amnesiac, and if he was it was strictly in his first appearance. But, I like how your theory can pretend that all the times he definitely remembers his past is because of the journal we see, what, once? I've heard some ridiculous fan theories, but rarely one with so little evidence.

Loving the new trailer and is Doctor Who being filmed in a different way by the BBC now? it looks all shiny and almost cinematic in it's approach from the looks of the trailer :D and it looks awesome.

They are using a different screen ratio this season.

So now we have to go out an buy 2:1 ratio TVs this season?! :D

Honest question though - is this a trend? TV has been 16:9 for some time now, but before that the 4:3 ratio was king for decades. The older one was more a product of the technological limitations of the time - but one wonders if 2:1 is heralding the next standard, or that Chibnall simply wants EVERYONE to have black bars on their Who. :P

EDIT: Okay, I've read up on it (and the corresponding aspect ration debate). I had no idea that the debates are more over the cinematic look and ability to show and tell things any more than the technical compromises of the movie screen or even the TV showing the content. Looks like 2:1 is a "compromise" ratio that some people want to adopt. The final season of Broadchruch was in 2:1 too, meaning Chibnall has used it and seems to like it for his storytelling.

I know what you meant. But ratings don’t separate motives for watching. You watch, they’re happy, regardless if you are.

I doubt they'd be happy, but I can't hint any harder about what I actually mean by not supporting them (even though I will be watching), so even though I still don't think you get what I mean, I'll drop it.

Besides, I'm an American, so its actually BBC America that won't be getting support from my viewing, or any money because I won't be buying any of the DVDs, etc.

Why wouldn't they be happy? You're watching the show. That's what they want.

Oh, you're downloading it or watching it illegally. That's what you're trying to say?

Classy.

No, I'm not saying that. I'm not doing that, and I certainly wouldn't say that. I definitely meant that I'd DVR it and fast forward through the commercials. That is legal, and doesn't give them the support they want. Anything else is wrong and not something anyone would admit to on a site where its not allowed to be mentioned.

Actually, when it comes to not giving money I really meant that I won't be buying the DVDs, since I usually do (its pretty much the only Doctor Who thing I buy, because I just don't have the room for toys and stuff like that). Since I assume that BBC America gets money from American DVD sales, they won't be getting money from me for a few years.

Actually, no. They take into account DVR viewings now.

But, sure... you aren't downloading illegally, wink wink.

They're also taking into consideration the theatrical screenings of episodes that are becoming so in vogue. 2:1 is considered more "theatre friendly."

But does it matter if you don't watch the ads? If a view doesn;t give them any profit, isn't that a useless view to them?

Also, of course I don't. You won't see me acting like one of those rapscallions of the internet. Between Weird Al's song about it and South Park's episode about it, everyone knows that downloading things is wrong.

Jodie Whittaker will be on The Graham Norton Show on Friday. We may or may not get a preview scene, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just reshow the recent trailer. Either way, I'm sure Jodie will go into more details about the upcoming season.

When's "Children In Need" this year? Would that tie into promo for this season and/or Christmas special, regardless of when it's airing?

A view is a view.

That’s right. You would never download illegally—wink wink. Because, even though it’s Doctor Who in name only—you wouldn’t want to support illegally and threaten people’s livelihoods, especially the people below the line.

Again, weird Al's song and South Park's episode (before SP became shit, fyi) on the topic definitely showed the dangers of illegal downloading, and I agree with their conclusions. Its even worse with a show funded by a nonprofit in a foreign country. Why, missing one view that wouldn't even see commercials regardless could cause the BBC and BBC America to fail, and all the cast/crew to become instantly homeless, like what happens every time a TV show is cancelled.

But, even law abiding citizens who are only talking about how bad downloading is aren't really supposed to be talking about downloading, forum rules, so we should leave these horrifying visions of a possible future alone now. This is a topic about a brand new IP from the BBC, no reason to drown it with talk of something so nasty and wrong that you're not even supposed to really talk about anyway.

More on topic, I wonder if this Doctor Who hiatus will last 16 years like the last one did. I wish they'd just officially cancel it until the next return, this indefinite hiatus stuff is just stupid. I wonder if we'll get a Dimensions in Time style thing while the show is on hiatus, or if noncanon stuff like Big Finish and the comics are the only Doctor Who stuff thats going to be released while the show is off the air. If they're going to copy the last hiatus, I could go for another US made TV movie, if the writing was a bit better (and we get to see Capaldi regenerate in it of course, wouldn't want to leave his regeneration to a web video like McGann's). Maybe we could even get a female Doctor.

Boring attempt at trolling.
