Donny’s Late TOS Movie Era Interiors

What TOS set was TNG engineering? (This thread is like a master's class!)
I think he meant that the TMP (TOS movie) engineering set became TNG engineering, but the set was so heavily modified in TNG that the TUC engineering set is more akin to the TNG set than it's original TMP appearance.

Anyway, yes, I think we're all clear that the TUC sets are modified versions of the TNG sets, which they themselves were all modified versions of the TMP sets, except those sets that resided on Stage 8 which were built from scratch for TNG but modified for use in TUC (Picard's quarters and the observation lounge)

Here's a breakdown of the reuse of sets from TMP to TUC:

TMP/TWOK/TSFS Ent Bridge > TVH Ent-A Bridge > TFF Ent-A Bridge > TUC Ent-A Bridge/Excelsior Bridge > GEN Ent-B Bridge

TMP/TWOK/TSFS Transporter Room > TNG Transporter Room > TFF Transporter Room > TNG Transporter Room > TUC Transporter Room

TMP/TWOK Sickbay > TSFS McCoy's Bar > TNG Sickbay > TUC Sickbay

TMP/TWOK Engineering > TSFS Excelsior NX-2000 Engineering > TNG Engineering > TUC Engineering

TMP/TWOK/TSFS Kirk's/Spock's/Stiles's Quarters > TNG Data's/Worf's Quarters > TUC Kirk's/Spock's/Sulu's Cabin AND TUC Crew's Cabin #1

TNG Observation Lounge > TUC Officer's Mess

TNG Picard's Quarters > TUC Crew's Cabin #2

TNG Ten Forward > TUC President's Office in Paris

Picard's Quarters? I think you meant ten forward. The Senor Crew Quarters are not in TUC. For the rest that is what I Meant.
Go back and read my previous post. Picard's quarters was seen briefly in the montage scene where the crew is scanning for Klingon blood throughout the ship. Picard's quarters was converted into a crew quarters with bunks for that scene. It's brief, so it's easy to miss. I'll take shots of the scene this evening when I get home.

This is the shot available at Trekcore while we wait until I can take a better shot:

The other half was from the TNG Ep Naked Now.

Actually, they split Kirk's/Data's quarters in two. The "living area" of Kirk's TMP-era quarters became Kirk's cabin in TUC, while the "office area" became the crew's quarters (with bunks and lockers) we see later in the film (in which Checkov has his "If shoe fits, wear it" moment). In the following two shots, you'll see that the TNG "replicator" was used to plug the wall, and was simply turned to face inward when shooting each room.

In the upper right hand corner of the last shot, you can see the unmistakable horizontal ceiling beams that were added to the set in TWOK, and the curved wall of the original TMP set which is now adorned with horizontal slats. Kirk's cabin was just on the other side of the wall with the replicator.

Another interesting note: Picard's quarters was converted into yet another crew quarter's set (also with bunks) for TUC, which we see very briefly during the montage where the crew is scanning for Klingon blood on "all...uniforms". Trekcore's screencaps didn't seem to capture a good shot of that specific scene, so I'll take and upload a shot when I get home this evening.

[EDIT] And just to further demonstrate, the door that Crewman Dax enters for the scene is the doorway added to the quarters set for TNG's first season:

TMP/TWOK Sickbay > TSFS McCoy's Bar > TNG Sickbay > TUC Sickbay

Wow, I never knew they used the sickbay set for the bar, that's brilliant, cheers!

Well... TMP Sickbay > TSFS McCoy's Bar (TNG Sickbay > TUC Sickbay (New Set not the same one from TMP)

Sure, but elements of the old set remained (for instance, the sickbay CMO's office section consisted of mostly the same set pieces) and the ward was built over the framework of the old set. So I wouldn't say it was an entirely new set.

Minor correction on the set lineage for the bridge:

TMP/TWOK/TSFS/TVH Bridge -> TNG Battle Bridge -> [Turbolift Alcoves Only From This Point] TFF/TUC Bridge (Ent/Excelsior) -> Enterprise-B Bridge -> Enterprise E Bridge

I believe the battle bridge was completely rebuilt for its later TNG appearances, based on the basic set made for the Enterprise-C bridge. The remainder of the Enterprise-A/Excelsior/Enterprise-B bridges were a new build, because the main carcass was in use by TNG.

The other half was from the TNG Ep Naked Now.
That end of the set was originally constructed for TMP: http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/tmp/themotionpicture1066.jpg

Actually, the mirror unit above was originally in between the living area and office area of the officer’s quarters set as a wall plug to enclose Ilia’s quarters. This mirror unit was then moved to the opposite wall of the set (with the TMP bed removed) for its appearance in “The Naked Now”, right next to the entryway to the bathroom. It remained in this spot in TUC, with the TNG replicator unit now serving as the wall plug between the two halves of the quarters set.

Some of the TUC redressing was mistakenly left in place when the set was put back to TNG. I believe the replicator graphic got left in, for instance.

Also, wasn't one of the reasons (but not the only) the TMP Bridge/Battle Bridge got rebuilt was because a lot of it had gotten rained on? I might be thinking of another set.

Heh...it wasn't just set redressing - the "search" scene that Donny showed reminds me of their prop re-use, particularly the "Giga-meter" from Ghostbusters II:

Looks like you got a new prop model to add to your collection, Don! :D

Its the same prop that is seen in Ghostbusters..it was modified for ST6. (Note It could be the same prop seen in the movie or a copy from the same mold) The original GB/Trek prop was made from a Power Scrubber Buffer.

Back to the subject of the Enterprise A bridge Anyone have any idea what was inside those domes on the upper right of Navigation and Upper Left of the helm. also what is inside the circle of the center 6 circles? Also all the panels but the Oberheim DMX appear to be related in design. The question is what are they? You see the panels again in the Torpedo Bay room and Galley.

I read that Paramount cut their budget and said no new sets were to be built for the movie, but the Director said no I have to build a bridge set. That is why it was reused for the excelsior bridge. Although the Torpedo bay appears to be a new set too.
