Episodes that are considered "good" that you actually dislike

The Empath is a highly regarded episode? :ack: If anyone thinks Inner Light is a snoozefest then Empath is a snoozefest with the aid of sleeping pills and warm milk.

I'd rather watch a constant rerun of "The Alternative Factor", "Spock's Brain", and "The Empath", than ever watch "The Inner Light" again.

Probably blasphemous for the DS9 fandom, but I never really got what was so great about Duet.

Good acting.

I wouldn't call myself part of "DS9 Fandom", but I thought Duet was awesome.

I really can't think of any "good" episodes I don't like. At least not off the top of my head.

Let me guess, you're one of those weirdos who also hates chocolate right? :p

I like chocolate.

I like chocolate.
Decades ago, in response to an allergist of questionable qualifications, probably dangling a proverbial carrot to get me to submit to a course of allergy shots, declaring chocolate (on highly questionable evidence) to be an aggravating factor in my allergies, I took what, for me, was the path of least resistance: I cultivated an intense loathing for the stuff.

I have had no reason to un-cultivate that loathing.

Funny: years ago, I would have said the same thing about "The Man Trap."

Now, the only examples that come to mind of episodes I will not watch, of series I like, would be entirely outside of Star Trek:
1) an episode of Quincy, involving child abuse, in which Quincy unwittingly arranges for the abuser to have sole custody, and barely corrects that error in time, and
2) an episode of Emergency, in which a genuinely funny running subplot of practical jokes between John Gage and Chet Kelly is juxtaposed with a jarringly tragic failed rescue in which Gage, DeSoto, and the entire Rampart Emergency Room staff are unable to save the life of a suicidally attention-starved boy.

Anything below 80% dark isn't chocolate, it's candy.

Hmm. I'm reminded of a suggestion in Sandra Boynton's Chocolate: The Consuming Passion: Ms. Boynton suggested that to avoid having others raid one's chocolate stash, one should cultivate (perhaps acquire might be more accurate) a taste for completely unsweetened chocolate.

^I love that episode, but I’ve always felt that it shone because of Nimoy’s acting moreso than Shatner’s. Even in the episode’s climax, it’s not Kirk’s face that I remember, but Spock’s response to McCoy’s outrage and incredulity.

Maybe Picard can make you a bowl of vegetable stew and you'll feel better about Inner Light. Doubt it. I too hated it too. Tribbles is Kirk's most boring adventure.

Another vote for The Inner Light. I get it, I just don't think it's anywhere near as good as it could/should have been. I find it mostly boring if I'm honest.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Troi based episodes. Especially the ones where she’s in pain and does that screaming thing. Her acting was just not appealing to me. That’s not to say she’s a bad actor at all, I just didn’t find her character believable. The accent didn’t help.

“I, Borg.” The scene where Picard confronts Hugh is interesting, but the rest of the episode isn’t that great.

My opinion of that episode keeps going down. I understand what they were trying to do but making Borg sympathetic, even one of them, is not a direction that I feel they should have taken. When you couple that with Picard wussing out on the solution to wipe them all out, it gets even worse.

I'm not a huge Troi fan, but I thought "Night Terrors" and "The Loss" were both very good. I'm not very fond of "Face of the Enemy".

I agree. One of the things that made the Borg such compelling villains is that they weren’t relatable in any way, shape or form. Humanizing Borg who were still members of the Collective didn’t make sense except in rare instances (e.g., Seven of Nine).

The Borg were created solely to give the Enterprise a terrifying and unbeatable foe, an race based on the efficiency of insects who work as a unit for the hive. They were never supposed to have any personality or interest besides exploiting technology(and then assimulating civilizations)nor was there supposed to be any ethical dilemma as to how to deal with them. The writers could have done those kinds of stories with any other alien race. I Borg: total "Jump the shark".

Its understandable that the writers had trouble following up on The Best of Both Worlds. Where do you go from there.

The other thread had me thinking, are there any episodes you dislike that are usually considered good?

For example, I find "The City of the Edge of Forever", "The Empath" and TNG's "The Inner Light" to be boring snooze fests. They may have good payoffs at the end and good character development, but you have to wade through fifty minutes of chloroform to get there.

As with episodes that are considered bad, I think sometimes it's just trendy to consider certain episodes good
Funny you should say that, the 2 TOS episodes that you mentioned were never quite my favorite!
When I found out that "City on the Edge of Forever" was considered the premier Episode of all Time I was astounded!
The Empath? Annoying that she was a mute and an advanced race had only this means of determining "Who was worthy of survival?!!!"

I enjoy both but the best? Not in my book!!
