Did CBS Steal the Tardigrade Idea?

I miss the Nasat. They were cool. I didn't even know they premiered in TAS. Here's a picture of P8 Blue from a Cross Cult cover:
latest

If that's P8 Blue...why is he green? ;)

The logic of the CBS defense here so far is:

  1. I've heard of tardigrades before;
  2. Tardigrades are cool;
  3. Tardigrades have been posted about a lot on the Internet;
  4. Now that STD had been accused of stealing an idea, it's crystal clear that the idea of a giant space-warping tardigrade would naturally occur independently to lots of writers, despite the fact that it's actually occurred to only two (2) writers;
  5. The STD writers, known for their fantastic originality in storytelling and their wholly uniquely imaginative approach to...something, sometime...must almost certainly be INNOCENT, INNOCENT, INNOCENT!

DoomCock mentioned in his recent interview with the developer that

1. CBS contacted him first
2. CBS threatened to sue him first for plagarism.

I think CBS is guilty and they know it. May be why the old show runners (not Fuller) were fired.

I don't believe any of that.
CBS has no ground to sue him.

Doomcock, while funny, isn't a journalist. I would take anything from these vlogs with a huge grain of salt.

Doesn't the tardigrade go back to Fuller?

It's even less likely that the folks who filled after he left invented anything that novel.

Serious question: has anyone ever been sued over the use of FTL travel in general? Or at least in terms of: "Our blank drive engines propel us through space as starfields whizz by at ludicrous speed"?

I watched the interview and didn't hear that. Please give me a time marker.

Yes and the whole thing with stamets and muchrooms and the mycellium network ALL came from fuller and are documented to be well before discovery or this game.

No. But I think if someone got into matter/anti-matter collisions controlled by some kind of crystal, CBS would be all over it.

Things can be developed indpendantly even if the other is known about.

One good example is doorways/sliders. Both network shows about alternate realities with some similarities. No lawsuits and no complaints of plagarism for the networks or the creators.

They absolutely can be. But, honestly, none of us really have a clue whether or not that is the case here. Like I said before, it is the complainants time and money to waste.

Of course not. But we can see the massive magnitudinal difference in the two projects and use our best judgment.

OTOH there's the Cold Squad/Cold Case brouhaha...

There's always the possibility CBS just buys the game assets and puts it on indefinite hiatus.
