Wouldn't that mean that the nacelles would be facing backwards? I prefer the idea that it was still the front of the ship but the bridge was elsewhere. No need to always put it in the front, after all. :)

The episode don't really make it possible to judge this, but the science vessel was indeed supposed to be larger.

Pity that neither version showed up on DS9. I kind of found it silly that Romulan fleets were made up entirely of Warbirds. Every other major alien race in the war (Klingons, Cardassians, Dominion) had at least two three different ship designs that appeared in multiple episodes, but no other 24th century Romulan design appeared more than once. Nothing wrong with it, of course. I just regret that it seems like that's all they have.

In-universe, it could be just a matter of policy in the 24th-Century Romulan Navy that warbirds are the dominant vessel in their fleet. The Romulans may also actually thought (at the time) it's silly to have so many different capital ship designs when one will do.

That’s the ship that came this week. Another bizarre “23rd” century ship. I really wish the bussard collectors were red

I don't see how it's bizarre at all, but to each their own.

probably my least favorite of the discovery line so far. i've never loved a starship that's got more than two nacelles and the model itself could really use some transparent parts with those four, very prominent bussards.

the size posters are going straight to eBay, i'm not even opening them. anybody have a good shot of their posters? so i know what i'm missing...

They’re just posters of the various ships in “top down” view. One for the Feds and one for the Klingons. Only interesting thing about them is the Discoprise is confirmed to have a size of 423 meters, which is nearly double the length of the TOS one.

While it in no way looks like a contemporary of the classic TV Enterprise, it does look like an evolution of Enterprise NX-01 and kind of like it could coexist with the classic movie Enterprise and Reliant.

They just don’t feel like a true Fed ship to me. It’s like a Chinese bootleg version of a Starfleet vessel.

I don’t know... the nacelles and the darker hull colours throw that evolution off a bit. Ships like the upcoming Bonaventure Class, as well as the the Columbia Class feel like better evolutions.

Have you seen the latest offer in UK and Germany?
£7 or 7€, respectively, off with the code TREK7 if you pre-order USS Reliant XL and USS Voyager Concept together.

So the scale for the Polar Lights models might be off. Not the 480 meters I thought it was.

Can you take a picture of your scale chart?

    I don't think that's near at all, half of 423 is 211 meters. That's a 70 some meter difference.

Discovery Europa arrived today. I know some people on the fb group aren’t fans but I really like it. Firstly it’s a great model, some say it’s light, but I don’t agree. No misalignments that I can see. I’m really enjoying pouring over these discovery models because you don’t really get to see them on screen so much even with the ability to freeze a scene (I remember I used to try and pause episodes of tng and ds9 to get a look at the ships but my video player wasn’t of good quality so the screen used to vibrate). Anyway I really like the Europa and have no problems with it having blue bussard collectors or looking ‘modern’. To me it’s a good model that could be of the same era of discovery, enterprise.

i repainted the europa's flat nacelle caps with some blue and silver paint to simulate glowing or transparency or whatever. i think it's an improvement:

LoL! So it’s even bigger. :)
I wasn’t around the poster when I posted it. I wonder where I got 423 from?
I did say “nearly” double the length with the original size of it being 289 meters.

The shenzhou is 423 which is directly below the enterprise, maybe there?

    Maybe.
So by the time Kirk has it, it’s shrunken by 153 meters. It must have been stuck in that anomaly from DS9 and didn’t come out of it correctly.
