Yeah, and it looked great to me.
Never meant to imply otherwise. I have nearly the entire DCAU on DVD and BluRay. I'm only missing Static Shock at this point (which is really hard to find second-hand for some reason). I even have Gotham Girls on the Birds of Prey DVD.

Superman Returns had a good Superman but a boring script and was just really dull. Routh could have been great, but Singer was obviously not the person to make a Superman movie.

Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut is the best of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, even if its ending is weird because of how Superman I & II were messed with as they were being made.

Man of Steel is literally "What is a nutty Ayn Rand fanboy made a Superman film", and its exactly as crap as you'd expect with that idea behind it. It looks bad, the story is bad, and the main character may be called Clark Kent but he sure as hell isn't Superman. Its still better then the next movie on the list, though.

Batman v Superman Its crap, and was originally hilariously long crap until it got cut down to overly long crap.

Justice League is not great, but its ok and I actually believed Cavill was Superman in it, since we got an injection of actual humanity and heroism into Superman. As a movie its better then Superman Returns, but even though I warmed up to Cavill a bit in this I still count Routh as the best modern live action Superman.

I knew there was a reason I liked it!

Seriously, the culture does seem to be more self-centered and (reasonably) suspicious of one another and of authorities, it's not unreasonable that a contemporary Superman would be influenced by that atmosphere. Even in the '80s fear that individuals or governments would resent him or want to exploit him was why he adopted a secret identity.

To me, Man of Steel and the other DC films pretty accurately reflect the tone of DC comics from the early 00's up through Rebirth so I don't think the argument that "this is not my Superman" holds up any more than "Lucas destroyed my childhood" does.

Unless DC comics from the early 00's up through Rebirth aren't your Superman either.

The Donner Cut, because Superman and Superman II are superior to every big screen version of Superman since they came out.

Where as the sister thread to this one ("Which Superman live-action... 1987 is the best?") was a tough one because most of the films listed were good, this one is tougher because, for the most part, the choices all fail for one reason or another. I selected "Man of Steel" purely on the basis that it was the least bad (though still bad). "Superman Returns" was simply pathetic with the actors apparently not allowed to give actual performances rather they were directed to give imitations (Brandon Roth aping Christopher Reeve and Kevin Spacey imitating Gene Hackman doing Lex Luthor). The last three were just bombastic messes.

Superman the Movie is, to me, just one of the best movies made, ever. I'd like to see the Donner cut of II, though the normal II is fine by me, with the whole decision to be superpowered or not, what-is-a-hero, etc. theme.

My son is a big Supes fan and I asked him about MoS. He and the reviewers said it was loud with a lot of destruction so I skipped it. I don't go see superhero movies anymore. Seeing representations of humans smashing into each other with fists just bums me out, there is so much hatred and violence in the real world anyway. I voted for Returns, the only one I've seen. It was decent, though over the top with its Christic imagary.

Did you catch the new Doomsday one yet?
Yeah. It was alright. Kind of bummed they had Clark dating Lois rather than Diana in this. I was enjoying the Superman/Wonder Woman romance. Something different for a change.
My only complaint was that Batman wasn’t beaten badly enough. :)

Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane are among pop culture's great romantic pairings, so much so that their relationship is the one thing not even the Snyderverse could find a way to cock up. Some things don't need to be changed, least of all for mere novelty.

With all the different versions of the character, I don’t see the problem of mixing the relationship up a bit.

You know, the only Superman I can recall who was basically "happy/smiley/confident" 24/7 was George Reeves' Superman from the 1950s.

I can recall several scenes of angst from Chris Reeve's Superman in the four films he made. I can honestly say the same about Dean Cain, Brandon Routh and Tom Welling. Yet, when Henry Cavill's Superman experiences his angst, people start bitching and moaning about it. Talk about hypocrisy.
