Ethan Peck cast as DSC's Spock

With Kirk we that he was on The Farragut, but we don’t know how long he was there, and what other ships he served on
There’s an opportunity here to see a young Kirk I feel. Imagine the excitement when they announce casting for James Kirk...

Do we know whether the Farragut was a constitution class ship in canon? I always assumed she was, but I’m not sure where that idea came from.

A young Kirk working with Pike era Spock and appreciating how great their working relationship could be might inform what we already know about TOS.

Despite his irritating game of chess, Kirk may have requested that Spock stay on as his X/O rather than bringing in someone new when he took over from Pike? Like in Into Darkness - so we know there’s precedent for Kirk to think like that...

Kirk meeting Spock for the first time would be fun to see. Would be like Picard meeting Data for the first time in the Buried Age novel.

I think the general consensus is that there were 12 Connies and the Farragut was one of them. I wouldn’t mind if it was say a Ranger Class or another one of those 23rd ships however.

With Kurtzman's involvement, Spock would probably still be ticked that Kirk cheated on the Kobayashi Maru like in the Kelvin Timeline. I'm not sure they will bring the Farragut and Kirk into this.

Considering how "The women!" is such a Trek meme now, they should have Spock shout 'The Klingons!' the moment he sees L'Rell and Tyler. :vulcan::klingon::klingon:

Spock requires an almost perfect actor to pull it off. An actor who can proclaim Spock without raising his voice. An actor who can proclaim emotion while remaining perfectly calm. An actor who can express intense emotion by raising an eyebrow or making a scathing quip without showing anything more than the tiniest smile. And an actor who can raise the emotional level of a Vulcan to gargantuan heights when, on the rare occasions, that Vulcan Logic fails. I don't know if Peck can do any of those things, but I'm willing to give him the opportunity to try. He has to go into this with all his heart, or he will fail. I applaud him for trying.

Though I regard VOYAGER as the weakest series, I felt Tim Russ really managed to capture that quality that Nimoy and Lenard evoked that few actors managed. So much I always felt he was way too underutilized in the show.

It was ok until Seven of Nine was brought in. Then we had 2 logical sounding characters in the show.

Did Tuvok and Seven ever have lengthy conversations? I don't remember. The sheer boredom of their conversations probably made me block out the memories. :vulcan::borg:

We got most of the crew re-cast. Are we all still sure we are watching Star Trek Discovery?

That would be cool if done correctly. I’ve not read the buried age novels but that throws new light on Picard and Data - I just assumed they met on the Enterprise!

I guess since they have a Connie model in DSC they could just relabel it if they ever wanted to show the Farragut (a la “ultimate computer”) even alongside the Enterprise - like on a joint mission where kirk’s tactical skills would be benefitted by Spock’s logic? Kirk would be what, operations officer at this point? What was his role on the Farragut, do we know?

I’d be very surprised if there weren’t similarities to the Kelvin timeline events - even though I hope they’d ignore that altogether. Kirk cheating on the test is one thing - having it be Spock who programmed it was a little cringe for me back in ‘09.

But using the Farragut is an easy way of bringing Kirk in - as his ship can just turn up for a mission or whatever. It wouldn’t need to be as contrived as the kobayashi maru test example from ST09.

And I’d love them to come up with another reason for Spock to shout “the women!” on DSC. Maybe Pike has strongarmed him into playing charades and he’s got as far as “Dr T. and...” Spock would then naturally shout the answer for the full name of the film thus winning the game. Pike would smile and say “do you know you play a very irritating game of charades mr Spock?” And Spock would be all “ah yes, irritation, one of your Earth emotions...” and so on

It does seem sad especially as fine Discovery crew members like Airiam and Detmer hardly get any screen time. Hurry up and spin these Pike guys off into their own show already! :P

I believe he was a lieutenant and one of the few survivors to survive the vampiric cloud which killed his captain. He hesitated firing on it which he thinks was the reason they all died.

Not often, but the one I recall was in "Year of Hell" where they share their thoughts on how humans generally leave their quarters a mess. Here's that transcript.

BROOKS: Seven.
SEVEN: Ensign.
TUVOK: A friend of yours?
SEVEN: My cabin mate. As a Borg, I was accustomed to cohabitating with thousands of other drones, but I find it significantly more difficult to live with a single human.
TUVOK: In what way?
SEVEN: Ensign Brooks is negligent. She leaves her equipment lying around the quarters and her clothing on the floor.
TUVOK: Indeed. I have found that most humans are less than meticulous when it comes to their domestic habits.
SEVEN: Indeed.

Of course, all this was wiped away via time reset.

That’s right - I’d forgotten about that. Would he have essentially been Sulu on the Farragut then do you think? Helmsman/weapons guy?

Fans back then just assumed every single starfleet ship looked like the Enterprise since that was the only class we ever saw.

They’re getting more in Season 2

Ok, let's buck this trend and show the Farragut after all, as a Crossfield or Walker class ship.
