Does it make you feel good that the prime timeline is alive and well?

It does for me!

Since the announcement of the upcoming Picard show, we can now rest assured that the prime timeline is alive and well! I remember when Star Trek 09 came out, I was afraid that that the prime universe was dead and that for then on it was only Kelvin-timeline stuff. "No one is interested in the prime-timeline anymore! It's played out and wouldn't work in the modern day because that's no longer considered 'cool'" is what a lot of people said back when ST 09 came out. (Btw, the prime-timeline novels that came out after ST 09 and Star Trek Online don't count for me since those aren't canon.)

Now, I know that Star Trek: Discovery is considered to take place in the prime timeline (because the producers said so) but I'm honestly still not 100% convinced yet!

The Prime universe hasn't been seen since Voyager finished (not convinced over a lot of Enterprise). I'll hold out judgement of the new Picard series until they release more on it, after the huge letdown that the other show is.

Oh, Enterprise is very much the prime universe, especially since in the episode "These Are The Voyages...." it takes place on the Enterprise-D.

The Picard Show is going to be it's own thing, with the same kind of rewritten continuity that Discovery has. It's an entirely different creative team behind it than Next Gen.

I'm really curious what Worf will look like...

I don't feel anything. The Picard Show intrigues me in as much as a new Trek series with next to nothing announced naturally intrigues me as a Trek fan. But, no, I'm not sounding trumpets and waving banners proclaiming "the Prime Universe is back and here to stay bitches."

I just want them to tell the best stories possible. Trek was at its best before every one was so concerned with how it all fit together at the macro level.

All interactions with Worf should be audio-only, so that we never see him. Avoid the Klingon “redesign” issue completely.

Feel good? It’s a joy I that I can only compare to winning the freedom of the open road from a cold and vindictive examiner, or finding the one that calls for a gesture on one knee, seeing her standing in the vestibule as the tune kicks in, or seeing that second line appear at last on a little white stick, hearing that furious scream for the first time.

Trek is back, and it’s the same continuity as that of my youthful passion. Everything pales next this.

Problem there is both Riker and Troi look noticeably different, so maybe not.

I don’t agree with this reasoning. That a particular character looks different because the actor has aged or changed his/her appearance doesn’t mean an entirely new universe is in play. By this logic, the TOS films exist in universes separate from one another and from the TV series because Shatner wore new hairpieces in each one.

I'm equal points happy and concerned. Happy about Picard coming back and the post-Nemesis timeline. Concerned that the look and feel will continue to carry vestiges of Discovery (which in turn carried vestiges of Kelvin, which I detest). Aesthetics are really going to be the last battlefield (pun intended) between Trek purists and the people steering the franchise.

^I can accept changes in aesthetics if the writing is still faithful to the Trek we know and love. Where I’ve problems with newer material are the instances in which the characters are unrecognizable.
