ALF reboot in development

Hope he leaves the seal alone
latest

ALF/Jessica Jones crossover confirmed.

I'm hoping this reboot will be something lighthearted. Maybe one of the Tanner's starts complaining about chest pain, only to have Alf claw his way out of his chest and then then eat the rest of the family. Yeah, something like that.

I saw it as a child. ALF was the star because it was so different.

I checked it out again a few years ago as an adult and buying all four seasons on DVD (oh, the German release DVDs that were complete - almost no syndication cuts. Keep that in mind as the American releases have tons of footage chopped out in some cases.) I rewatched them over last winter as a binge marathon, it is unlikely my opinion will have changed much since then but in my next marathon that may or may not occur. But the human actors made the humor work. Max Wright needed to be the straight man to ALF because that's how the humor worked. Don't get me wrong, I still liked ALF as concept and execution and especially as character, sure, but the Tanners and Ochmoneks are by no means anything approaching "props". Or at least the actors, who saw enough of something special to make the show. "Project ALF" failed because ALF didn't work as his own entity and there were plenty of props in that movie.
I haven’t seen a single episode since I was a toddler, I might need to find the DVD.

What is next??
Reboot of Friends?? :barf:

Why does Ross, the largest friend, not simply eat the other five?

Can he have a top hat and cane and sing Hello, My Ragtime Gal?

I'm tempted to move ALF forward on my binge rewatch list, because of what you pointed out earlier about ALF being the star of the show and all. In ways he had to be and, yeah, he was... :)

I had to peek on youtube to see if I could find certain clips, it's a grab bag, but...

It's not in English but it's the reaction shots that are hilarious...

...I love how the Tanner shower curtain is also the Connors', LOL!

Yup, I'll be moving ALF forward. ALF is the star in a number of ways, but I still get that "ensemble" vibe that's lightning in a bottle and they really nailed it in the premiere. Everybody got some great lines on occasion, but there's still something about ALF himself - on either side of the punchline. It really was a great show.

As for the reboot, I hope they get lightning in another bottle.

I'd be interested in a prequel where ALF is in the Orbit Guard and it's a real political thriller with different factions and increasing tensions as negotiations break down and war is looming. ALF has discovered a plot that the leadership of the Orbit Guard has been compromised by elements of a terrorist organization and it's up to ALF to expose them and get things set back on the right path.

I used to watch ALF, but I haven't seen it almost 30 years. It won't be the same without the original voice actor, but it would be nice if they found someone who sounded like him.

My three favorite episodes:

1. Raquel sees ALF, then he sends her a transmission over TV and plays 2001 music in the background.
2. The one where ALF has to pretend he has hostages when cops corner the house. I can't remember the reason.
3. The Christmas episode. I don't remember much but I do remember somehow ALF ends up down a chimney.

Bonus: ALF interviewed by Johnny Carson.

When I was a kid, I had a 45 with a bunch of ALF songs on it. If you know what I'm talking about, you pass The Age Test.

They also had an ALF Saturday morning cartoon I used to watch about his adventures on Melmac.

Other Bonus: a live-action PSA when ALF told us not to pollute and how polluted Melmac was.

I was never a fan, but wasn't a good deal of the cuteness of the show the fact that Alf was a puppet? Not a weird uncanny valley CGI monster.
I suppose that was the reason why we almost never got to see Alf below the waist.

But I do remember that in the opening credits montage, the full body Alf was running around. We got to see his stubby legs and all. I think he was chasing Lucky.

Will the reboot use cgi for Alf? I don't know if a cgi Alf can look as cuddly as a real puppet or even a tiny man in an Alf costume.

If the reboot is going to be on NBC, I hope there would be a crossover with The Tonight Show. It may not be the same without Johnny and Ed, but why not.

He is returning!

This has been the sole purpose of making all these reboots and revivals work in the first place. It's all been leading to this. The world is not ready. But it's the return we've all been waiting for even if we didn't realize it.

What makes you think Paul Fusco wouldn't be involved? He's still alive and has performed the character as recently as 2 years ago.
The article doesn't mention Fusco either way, but as long as he's around I just can't see anyone else performing ALF.

I thought I read an article somewhere that he died. If he didn't, I'm glad I'm wrong.

I like "ALF", but a continuation in this day and age where everybody is racist and everything is racist except the hypocritical racists pointing the things out, how does the original Alf actor get this job after a video like this?

Every article I've read said that he would be involved, along with the other co-creator. I seem to recall that Fusco owns the rights, he's been trying to get a new show off the ground for years. He even did a talk show on TVLand with Alf as the host.

My memory of it is that we do see shots of him full-body every so often (played by a dwarf in a suit, of course), but the suit looks different to the puppet, with a much smaller pinhead look. But it's been a long time, so I could be wrong. :)

I liked ALF, for the most part, back in the day. I would be curious to see a new series.

Might be funny if ALF goes after what he thinks is a cat and it turns out to be a skunk....

They did do the occasional full body shots with little person Michu Meszaros, who died back in 2016, in a costume.
