Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Landed BoP is ready for pre-order in UK.

I wonder if they ever release a box set of all three versions.

Thinking of variants, a Voyager-at-warp would be cool.

Gods no.
They are already stretching it.
If that was on the cards they should have just done hinged models and been done with it.
That or not do numbered collection. Because cancelling is becoming a serious option, especially since DSC is now a separate range, and as a result I couldn’t be arsed with wasting money on it. I saw the writing on the wall when they shuttles thing happened, and now...well, the minute little man gets fed up with it, I am cancelling. Before we get ‘generations repaint enterprise d’ or ‘pearlescent TMP refit’ ‘nemesis e’ ‘chunk missing from hull because of Borg eneterprise d’ and into full silliness.
You want a voyager at warp, break out your razor saw and super glue. Job done.

so this probably falls under the "same shit, different day" category but i had previously said my discovery bird-of-prey had shipped, but checking the email again i was mistaken and it was the battlestar galactica. spoke to CS this afternoon and they told me that my particular bird-of-prey (subscription, not preorder) won't be shipping until the size comparison posters are in stock on august 26.

anyone else in the US have this happen? i don't know why i continue to be surprised by delays with this collection, but here we are.

Mine is coming with the binder, no mention of the scale chart. Weird that some of ours have shipped but that they’d hold up others for a free gift that could ship with any model really.

I wonder how much it’ll show up on eBay for.

Also, got my shipping notice that the Sternbach Voyager has shipped.

The Disco binder, at long last!

NuBOP is very cool to look at. Shouldn't be Klingon, IMO, but still very interesting design.

Literally no one is forcing you to buy these, if you don't want to get the ones you mentioned, that's cool, don't get them, others may want them though. I've only ever gotten the Starfleet ships in the collection.

The Vulcan survey ship from ENT looks dope:

Like an alien spaceship right out of the 50s! (In which the episode was set it appeared in:guffaw:).
I always loved the Vulcan starships on ENT. Sadly I found all the Eaglemoss models of them severely lacking - that glowy ring simply doesn't work as good as such a small scale model. I think really hard about purchasing this one, though.

Except...when you sign up to a collection, and it has a finite end point in mind as it starts, and has numbers on its issue, then the collection is incomplete. What I was advertised and signed up for was that. It’s now stretching.
No one has forced me indeed, but I am buying them for a little one. I am sure when the collection started they definitely discussed not dragging it out, and they did publish lists etc.
I literally preordered issue one from them, and pushed little one to post office in his pram to get spare issue ones. He flew the enterprise d at my sisters wedding and all around supermarkets.
We don’t need the pram anymore, except maybe to cart esoteric starships around from to room....

....just cancel the subscription then...?
I mean, being a completionist is great and everything. But clearly you shouldn't drain your wallet for stuff you don't like.
Star Trek has an almost infinite amount of ships appearing in it. I would have NEVER guessed we got models out of most of them! This series is a heaven for people like me, who buy very rarely and then very obscure ships, like the Romulan drone from ENT, Cpt. Protons rocket ship or OV-165.
The hero ships are available everywhere, in different sizes, different qualities and all. This series is a chance to get the really obscure ones as models. All of them. It's a bit weird to blame it for putting out more obscure ships.

Not really. They should just not do small variations in the main line. That’s the only thing that can be incomplete. Stuff like the shuttles should be main line. Stuff like different poses or just a name and registry change shouldn’t be. Really small differences between models are annoying too. They said in the beginning they would focus on important or interesting ships, they published lists...and those lists grew as interesting ships receded off into the distance, and one hit wonders grew in their place. They stopped being a collection and became a range instead. Which is a different thing.
So yeah, cancellation becomes more of an option, the moment little man says he doesn’t want to bother with them any more. They already turned ‘subscriber only gifts’ into another cash cow and turned those into another part of their range. It’s...disingenuous.

Stuff like the shuttles should be main line.

Absolutely agreed.

That's the bread and butter of any collection though. In fact, I am absolutely positively shocked at how little they are reusing stuff and their molds. Like, even in cases where the television shows blandly reused stuff (The Miranda variants, Wolf 359 ships, Dominion war kitbashes), they most of the time have a completely new mold.

And this is really the main selling point of the series: Get us ships we would NEVER get anywhere else. Having a third Voyager variant in there? Well, annyoing, but why not? I for one am happy to buy the klingon BoP with wings in attack position. Is it silly? Yes, a model with adjustable wings would of course be better. But for that prize?? Goddamn!

Stuff like different poses or just a name and registry change shouldn’t be. Really small differences between models are annoying too.

AFAIK they do "same ships only with different registrys" (like the USS Yorktown, or now the USS Glenn) just for special exclusive events. Really no point in getting them except if you are looking specifically out for them. I mean, they have to generate some money, and creating a new model every two weeks is frickin' expensive and exhausting - and especially with the line being so long already, a lot less people are buying the regular ships anymore.

This is the prize we have to pay for there still being new models produced. Which is IMO a lot better than no new models produced!

I really don't see a problem in there. Like none at all! They are still creating new models. That is fuckin' fantastic. I NEVER excpected this line to complete their original 60 issues, let alone exceed them! I am happy for every new starship that get turned into a model. Do I skip almost all of them? Of course. But every now and then, I buy a little model that I would never, ever get anywhere else!

So yeah, cancellation becomes more of an option, the moment little man says he doesn’t want to bother with them any more. They already turned ‘subscriber only gifts’ into another cash cow and turned those into another part of their range. It’s...disingenuous.

Indeed. Just buy the ones you actually want to have. You don't win anything by having the most complete line ever if you aren't happy with it and it's dusting off somewhere in a box.

But I'll stay happy this line exists, and continue to watch out everytime new models get presented, to look out if there is one in them I actually want to buy.

(That being said: The XL-line and DIS-line are WAY too expensive and not unique enough for me - but again: Better they are produced for the people actually interested in them, than not at all. And who knows? Maybe one day, I might buy a single one of their models if it's a ship I really want to have!)

Well that’s alright then.
All bless Eaglemoss.
Though their bussards be blue on a refit, they are the fount of all good.
No matter the green lump on the back of a Romulan Scout ship to make a different model, or equal sized shuttle bays on the galaxy, may their printers always be blessed.

Absolutely agreed.

I think that’s the thing. If they had stopped the numbered line at sixty, and then turned it into a range where they sell the new models, that would work better because of how that initial subscription was sold. They are essentially acting as a range now anyway, as you say, with the other ships. If we had say finished the numbered range just before the DSC stuff hit, maybe I would have gone for the DSC stuff. As it stands....

I was interested in the magazine. But then they bundled them up in the books. So if this wasn’t being bought for my little man, maybe I would have bought the odd ship he really likes, and then got the books for me. As it stands, there is almost zero benefit to being a subscriber for subscribers. As you say...less people are buying the ships. Maybe this is why. (ThAt and how long purchases can take...over a year maybe two for some replacements I bought. Hero ships, granted.)
That’s my grumble. It’s not what I signed up for, and maybe they should cement that change by ending the numbered run. Except then I suppose if sub numbers get too low, they won’t be able to shift some of those esoteric ships like Alice or Neelix’s shuttle. So they won’t make them.
There’s a point where we run out of space, money, and goodwill. End the numbered collection, and send me emails in case there’s something I like and will buy. Because I skipped the aventine and Titan, when I really wanted them, because I couldn’t justify more money on top of the existing sub.
They are killing their whales.

Jesus Christ.
You really want them to end their run, do you?
Just stop buying them. The fun doesn't have to end for everyone just because you don't like it anymore.
