Casting Pike's Number One

But McCoy went to medical school. If universities in the future are like they are now, he probably studied some history too. It's not implausible that he would be aware of historical terms for his profession that have relevance to the history of where he was from, however many centuries before it happened. In TOS, McCoy seemed proud of being from Georgia, and he also knew that, hundreds of years before his time, people were sewn like garments.
He also knew how to make a fantastic Mint Julep.

I thought the shuttle scene in Trek'09 was quite clever and apropos, considering McCoy was somewhat drunk when he got on and was just rambling on and on about whatever popped into his head.

Here is something that illustrates very well that what was a household name in the 1960s is a virtual unknown by most people today. I came across this image that someone put together. I believe that is the Koerner version of the Enterprise. For some reason, what came into my mind was 'Kelvinator'. Then, I thought Aha!....if that brand was still well-known, people would have been using the word in potentially all kinds of funny ways to describe things from the Abramsverse. But it's defunct and has faded into obscurity, so not many would understand the reference:

This discussion is going in circles. People can just reread my previous posts on the topic, I get tired of repeating myself.
