Do we know why Pike and co are in the different uniforms?

What would I have done?

Kept "The Cage" uniforms but upgraded them slightly to look like modern-day Military sweaters.

How about cleaning up the collar on the shirt and reworking the Landing Party Jacket to something akin to the Monster Maroons? There is some definite potential there if they weren't so badly constructed.

and the crew of the Defiant wore the arrowhead.
Not anymore.

Yeah, I think somebody thought that different ships were supposed to have different badges because the Antares crew in "Charlie X" had a different symbol. But they weren't regular Starfleet, they were merchant marine.

Exactly that

There was an internal memo released a few years ago stating that every starship was suppose to have the same badge, but someone on the team screwed up or didn't know that, which is why some ships ended up having different badges.

But internal memos are not canon.

Seems like that one became canon, as everyone in both the Abramsverse and Discoverse wear arrowhead badges well before TOS.
The memo became public after the Kelvin movies came out IIRC.

And the Discovery's badge isn't identical to the Enterprise's.

I'm not wrong.

They all have slits down the side. Discovery, Starfleet command, all the Starfleet command emblems, even the ones on the Enterprise computers.

The Enterprise has its own unique version of the Arrowhead without the slit.

You realize that more than a few feet away, and you really can't see the slit. The arrowhead is the badge for all of Starfleet. A line in it doesn't change that.

To me, it's close enough to be considered different versions of the same insignia.

The landing party jackets is definitely how I would have done a Robert April series. I feel like if they were tighter fitting, made of better material, with the coloured turtleneck sweaters underneath, it would have been a cool, yet retro look.

I love retro-futuristic looks and it was a real missed opportunity that they didn't go for that aesthetic for STD. STD looks so generic, like every modern dark and gritty sci-fi show.

looks pretty. different to me. And it's noticeably different in the trailer too at a distance.

Sorry if it's been asked but in the trailer we see them in TOS influenced uniforms before switching over to the Discovery style ones.

Just wondered if we know whats going on.

They took the DSC uniforms, applied TOS colors to them, and added rank-stripes. So, now we have DiscoTOS Uniforms.

I think it was done so the look of the Discovery Uniforms and the Enterprise Uniforms would match up better. Otherwise, a DSC/Cage Crossover would look as jarring as a crossover between Mad Men and a series set during Present Day.

According to Fuller, back when the emblem was revealed, the design meant something. I wonder if he meant that it was the logo for the ship, or something else. At the time the uniforms and badges had not been revealed yet, that was still a year off.

Okay? The TOS arrowhead isn't a direct replica of "The Cage" arrowhead. The movie arrowhead isn't a direct replica of the TOS badge. The TNG badge isn't a direct replica of any of the prior badges. Not really seeing your point?
It means eventually Starfleet adopts the full arrowhead that the Enterprise is currently using.

Or that it simply always had an arrowhead as its symbol. That is canon. The Kelvin had them in 2233. The Discovery and the rest of Starfleet in 2258.
