It wasn't the tone that killed it for me, just the ton of non-sensical fan wank.

Well, no. They've actually done the awkward elevator scene in the show.
I was really feeling the trailer until the end. It’s not just the cheap humor, but the fact they’d consider doing something that is basically an Orville trademark. It doesn’t reassure me about their judgement. That said, I appreciated that they leaned in so far on “fun.”

I ask the same question. But, at least this one seems to be standing a bit more on its own versus MOAR Klingon war and Mirror Universe.

LOVED IT.
At this point, I don't even care if Pike delivers subtle comedic moments throughout the season. The show needs it. Makes it feel more like Star Trek.
Thankfully Akiva Goldsman can exercise his edgelord fantasies through the DCU Titans trailer.
The dour tone would be so wrong for this TOS-era of Trek.
Awkward elevators have been done for years in all kinds of shows. Orville doesn’t hold a trademark.
