The Discovery team deserves nomination just for the Saru makeup.
GoT and Westworld are fantastic shows that shoud win a lot of Emmys, in both technical and non-technical categories.
As noted in the article, TREK shows haven't been nominated for acting awards since Nimoy back in the sixties. And Trek has never been routinely nominated for directing or writing.
For better or for worse, we tend to get relegated to technical categories.

It's nominated but I won't hold my breath for a win. Why? Because it's Star Trek. Doesn't matter if it's Discovery.
Used to be, though, that genre programming in general got no respect. Not so much these days.
The 70th Emmy nominations were announced this morning and Discovery picked up 2 nominations. As has been the case for all previous Star Trek series, except TOS and the last season of TNG, Discovery only picked up nominations in the technical categories.
