Leonardo da Vinci

With "Scorpion", "The Raven", "Scientific Method", "Concerning Flight" & "The Omega Directive" Captain Janeway's interest in Leonardo da Vinci only seems to have grown. In fact, she even had a copy of the red chalk sketch he did of an old Man (which is completely untitled, we have no idea who it really is, it's just assumed to be a self-portrait) in her Ready Room. How much of an influence do you believe the Master had on The Good Captain -- personally, professionally? In what unexpected ways might it have expressed itself, throughout the series?

I believe personally that da Vinci may have inspired Janeway to join Starfleet. She saw his 'Flying machine' and took inspiration from it.

Did she attend da Vinci's funeral as a child?

Or does she dismiss the claims of Flint, or is she perhaps unaware of those? He didn't appear shy or modest about his past; on the other hand, Kirk has been known to be, umm, discreet in his reports.

Telling the simulation "I know who you aaaare..." would probably not occur to Janeway. But knowing about Flint might significantly affect (probably increase) her admiration. Would she not wish to meet ("him as") Brahms then as well?

You probably didn't mean exclusively but just in case, Shannon O'Donnell did. however I prefer to think, rather than the watered down tale of an aunt, it be someone like Da Vinci.

I think VOY like the rest of trek since TOS has chose to mostly ignore Flint

In "Concerning Flight," I believe that Janeway had said something about Kirk claiming he met da Vinci, but that the evidence wasn't conclusive. Flint may well have believed he was da Vinci in the past, if he were so long lived. I mean, after a thousand lifetimes ... who remembers? Spock observed that Flint painted just like him, but so can any decent forger. Spock did seem convinced by Flint's tale ... which gives it the gravitas it needs to be more than true ... it's jolan tru!

I could imagine 3 more eps with Leonardo

1: Leonardo da Vinci invents his own mobile emitter and flies off the ship in his flying machine
2: Leonardo da Vinci gets captured by the borg
3. Leonardo da Vinci is revealed to be the new borg queen in the voyager finale. Janeway must face her mentor

Leonardo Da Vinci in the show always seemed like 'Modern revisionist Da Vinci', set up so Janeway could write herself into his life as a Mary Sue.

(DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT SAYING JANEWAY IS A MARY SUE, I AM SAYING SHE PLAYS ONE IN HER HOLODECK FANTASY)

I don't think Da Vinci is what inspired Janeway, more like her wish fulfillment fantasy, that if she could be Da Vinci's best friend, she's worthy of being a scientist as great as him.

It would be interesting to see Jimmy Diggs thoughts about it. He wrote Concerning Flight and he's also a fan that knows TOS and TAS extremely well. There's know doubt he knew about Flint.

I think everybody who goes into a holodeck program is becoming a Mary Sue.

(Just looked it up) Forgive me for misleading you, sir, it was an honest mistake. It seems Jimmy Diggs has plenty of life.

That's good to know. Glad he's still around. I'm hoping he'll get a crack at a Discovery episode.

John Rhys-Davies would be quite imposing in the Borg queen regalia. :techman:

Now that's a good question: Was John Rys-Davies wasted on playing a holodeck character? Should he have been given something with more "size," shall we say? Something on the order of what Khan became for Ricardo Maltiban?

Wow, first correct usage of the term in, well, forever!

On the next episode of Voyager: A simulation of Khan merges with Leonardo da Vinci in a terrible holodeck accident and takes over the ship

It was never public knowledge that da Vinci was actually Flint (only the rumor Janeway heard about Kirk meeting him), so the hologram version couldn't be written that way. Therefore, da Vinci (as Rhys-Davies played him) doesn't know he's Flint.
