1980 Flash Gordon Film

... YES!!! And when General Kala fires all weapons "in continuous salute" the Mingers raises his hand and clenches his fist, like "damn right!" ha ha! He's so friggin' awesome!
 
Does anyone enjoy this Cult Classic as much as I? What are your thoughts on this cinematic novelty?

It was one of my favorite movies as a kid and I still love it as an adult. It was very visually impressive for its day and just a lot of cheeky/campy fun. Question: Did they dub Flash's voice- because Sam Jones (at least now) doesn't sound anything like his Flash character and I thought that I had heard something that he had his voice overdubbed?
 
When we first see Princess Aura wearing her jeweled bikini and golden veils, she looked far more "in the spirit" of Dejah Thoris than did the "official" adaptation Disney released just a few years ago.

Interestingly enough, Filmation's Aura is the closest of any adaptation to the original Alex Raymond art. I recently discovered Aura in the newspaper strip had vibrant red hair with a gentle wave. There's a rather infamous panel depicting a topless Dale Arden (facing away from the reader) being whipped floating around the net. A raven haired woman of regal bearing watches the torture with cold interest. Often, that woman is listed as Aura. I recently learned it's not, but a different character, a queen introduced later in the strip's run.
 
Ornella Muti brought the perfect mix of playfulness and sexiness to the role. She's a Good Times Girl and you wouldn't think her much of a heavyweight, but she's a tough cookie, though and she doesn't rat out her friends. She's very loyal, so you know she's got a good heart. But, yes, she's a lot of fun in this movie ...
