Starship Size Argument™ thread

I don't know. Couldn't you more accurately call it a probe? Pioneer 10 wasn't a ship, was it?

Uncrewed vehicles today have diverse roles. Some with treads can be considered tanks, some at sea can rightly be called ships. But not all. Probing would probably be a misleading mission description of V'Ger, and certainly of the uncrewed USS Prometheus segments...

V'Ger was a self-aware entity rather than a ship or a probe. Kirk dismissively calls her a "Thing", which Bones rightly throws back at him, but the whole point is that she's sentient and is looking for the meaning of life. If Data is alive, V'Ger certainly is.

V'Ger was just looking for some love.

She wanted to be with her creator and make baby V'Gers

This thread has gone off topic. The reason the discovery ships are given different sizes is simple. They have changed the scale. You can divide the new ship sizes by
221000/144323 to find their sizes using the old scale

any discrepancies regarding decks etc can be explained that the federation uses “federation meters” which are Longer than earth meters. (Maybe the discovery scale is using earth meters). This would also explain the Oberth class problem if we admit that the federation uses a different meter scale.

FM= federation Meters

Kelvin type: 315 FM (approx)

Constitution class: 288.646 FM

Walker class: 276.499 FM

Cardenas class: 287.797 FM

Crossfield class: 490.11 FM

Engle class: 253.186 FM

Hiawatha class: 391.501 FM

Hoover class: 232.68 FM

Magee class: 147.066 FM

Malachowski class: 180.894 FM

Nimitz class: 250.312 FM

Shephard class: 330.114 FM

But the Kelvin Enterprise is clearly larger due to the interiors, unless Kelvin people are a third of the size. There's no indication Nero's incursion caused a Honey I Shrunk the Kids effect.

I’m referring to the discovery ships. The JJ prose was larger due to tech from the future

You're in the wrong forum for discussing ships which appear in Discovery. You want to be over here.

You're also resurrecting a thread which has been idle for nearly three years, and you've done so with a post which is (potentially, at least) more off-topic than anything which had happened in this thread to date.

Please try to be more careful in the future.

Closing.
