When Trek insults our intelligence

It's always been believed by fandom that Spock was the first

There was a poll taken?

Also, are we assuming that there are still labels such as "homewrecker" in the 24th century?

For humans probably yes, depending on the culture, loyalty in committed relationships were expected 300 years ago, so why be any different in the next 300.

As for Picard: Sure, he is in love with Beverly, probably from the moment they met. But she was already with Jack by then. So being the man of honor he is, Picard didn't talk about or act on any of this until long after Jack's death.
Which proves Picard isn't really French lol

Because they are more evolved and have love instructors. Just idle speculation on my part, perhaps even a bit reckless.
Because GR fantasised in the future everyone would be just like him...:nyah:

Of course, in a universe in which cross-species romances are commonplace, you shouldn't need birth-control at all. :)

Are they really though? Even now, the divorce rate in the US is over 50% and less people are getting married. Open marriages happen quite a bit. De-emphasis of religion may lead to a more sexually open society. I'm pretty sure that was what Roddenberry was hoping.

He was on his knees praying for it. And we know his feeling on religion.

The rest of the world is not like one particular corner of the USA (or the West) despite GR's fantasies.

I remember they explained the English thing in Escape from the Planet of the Apes when Cornelius says something like "Entlish, what is English, I speak the language taught to me by my father...."
That doesn't really plug the plot hole, though. What @Greg Cox was criticizing was not the fact that the Apes speak English, but the fact that it goes completely uncommented on by Taylor. The fact that the Apes spoke English should've cued him to the fact that they had some connection with Earth.
surely birth control in the 24th century will have advanced to the point where it is absolutely 100% effective.
Why would it be? It certainly wasn't in the 23rd.

Absolutely. Picard is nothing if not honorable. And rather repressed. ;)
