DSC is nice and uniform with the other series' 3-letter abbreviations.

I know a lot "fans" prefer STD though...

I prefer DSC, sorry but when I see the abbreviation STD I think of what that particular abbreviation is more commonly associated with - Sexually Transmitted Disease.

A lot of modern pop is like disco with different pretenses. Power pop about partying and hot people, only with more autotune and less falsetto. And better outfits.

I go with DSC formally and "Disco" informally. Depends on the context. I voted formally in the poll. ;)

I was told by my parents a long time ago that I used to dance to disco when I was a baby. So, even back then, my becoming a fan of the show was preordained.

I go with DIS to continue the "line" here of just using the first three letters from VOY and ENT. Just my preference.

With the movies, while I will occasionally use abbreviations like TMP and TWOK for the TOS movies, I'm more likely than not to use their numbering (Star Trek III will always be The Search For Spock to me rather than Beyond). I usually refer to Star Trek '09 as Star Trek XI, though, and the next two films simply by name like I do all the TNG movies.

I actually prefer "STD" for a bit of levity. I see nothing malicious about it; I wish all Trek shows could have abbreviations that make you chuckle like that. But others seem to get upset over it for some reason. Go figure. SF&F fan bases tend to be so uptight over things like this. I wish we would all just lighten up a little.

It's most commonly used by bashers of the show from what I've seen. So, if someone who types "STD" isn't a detractor of the show, they have to be mindful that a lot of people -- rightly or wrongly -- will misinterpret them from the get-go.

Looking forward to checking out Discovery. I've seen screenshots (The Klingons look like mythical monsters!?) and I've read a smattering of (spoiler free) reviews, but otherwise I'm going in blind. The first IMDB review -- ONE star -- isn't too promising, but dismissed easily enough in this current climate.
Here's hoping!

I’m not a basher of Discovery.
I have never seen Discovery, not because of any hostility towards it but because of the way in which it is broadcast.Maybe I’m getting older and crankier but TBH I find that I don’t care if Inever see it.That’s not hostility that’s apathy.

The STD thing is an admittedly puerile attempt at levity.puerile yes but the way the world is going I’ll take my jollies wherever they come from.
