I think going "artsy" with that story was the only logical choice. How else would they film what transpires in the book? Should there be a narrator explaining what's going on?Maybe a reboot that isn't 100 hours long, and actually has a coherent story with a real ending? That's the reboot I'd like to see. Take the few little good elements of 2001 (the crazy AI and the astronaut fighting against him), and make a real movie, not an overly long incoherent art piece like the terrible original movie.
