I'm not sure what to make of this, I love the games, but these kinds of movies rarely ever seem to work out well.

The upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie has gotten a 2019 release date

The upcoming film based on the SEGA video game character Sonic the Hedgehog has been given a 2019 release date, according to THR. The Sonic film will be produced by Neal H. Moritz and Deadpool director Tim Miller will executive produce with Toby Ascher. Dimitri Johnson and Dan Jevons will co-produce. The film will appear in theaters on November 15, 2019 and will be directed by Jeff Fowler (Gopher Broke)

SEGA and Paramount finalize deal for Sonic the Hedgehog film

Just yesterday, we learned that the Sonic the Hedgehog film will open in theaters on November 15, 2019. Now, SEGA of America has announced it has reached a final agreement with Paramount Pictures to co-produce the movie.
This move represents an important next-step in the expansion of the Sonic the Hedgehog IP, bringing the character to new audiences globally. As part of the IP strategy for Sonic the Hedgehog, SEGA Group has been working to expand this character beyond the video game market to become an entertainment franchise. Recently, Sonic has appeared as an animated character on television, consumer products, console and mobile games, and more.

Sonic comics, TV series, and merchandise is nothing new. I watched 2 animated series and read the comics back in the '90s, and I've seen shirts and other merchandise on a fairly regular basis since then.

Multiple long-awaited projects are now nearing production, including the "Terminator" reboot, directed by "Deadpool's" Tim Miller and produced by James Cameron. (Fox is co-financing the movie and releasing internationally.) Another important effort is the studio's computer-animated and live-action hybrid "Sonic the Hedgehog," produced by Neal Mortiz, which was previously set up at Sony. Gianopulos bought the Sega video game adaptation after seeing early footage that previewed the film's tone and humor.

James Marsden to star in Sonic the Hedgehog movie

Variety reports that James Marsden of Westworld and the X-Men franchise will star in Paramount Pictures‘ Sonic the Hedgehog movie, an adaptation of the popular game series from SEGA. This isn’t the first time that Marsden has worked on live-action/animation hybrid however, having previously starred in the Easter-themed comedy Hop.

The film will take its cues from the games as well, focusing on Sonic’s attempts to battle the evil Doctor Robotnik who is on a quest to assemble the Chaos emeralds. This mark the first time that the Sonic games have been adapted for the big screen, but the character has previously appeared in both Wreck-It Ralph and this year’s Ready Player One.

Ride Along’s Tika Sumpter in talks for Sonic the Hedgehog movie

Variety reports that Ride Along‘s Tika Sumpter has entered talks to star in Paramount Pictures‘ Sonic the Hedgehog movie, an adaptation of the popular game series from SEGA. The trade notes that Sumpter will play the female lead in the film, joining Westworld’s James Marsden for the live-action/animation hybrids.

Have we heard if this we have any of the other regular Sonic characters like Tails or Knuckles?
I'm not sure how likely it would be, but I would love to see them bring back Jaleel White as Sonic. I see looking through his IMDB page that White hasn't played him since 1999, but I have to confess he's still the first voice I hear when I think of Sonic.

Define interesting.
I suppose he has the comedic chops and a very cartoony style thinking back to his old movies like Mask and Ace Ventura. But even if that were still true I don't know if he sounds right for the part in my head.
