Who is the best lead of a current superhero franchise?

There are some fantastic, charismatic actors carrying these franchises now, with hopefully more to come in future phases. With Ant-Man 2 getting critical and audience praise, and about to come out, who are your favourite superhero leading actors?

    Your choices are:

RDJ - Iron Man/Avengers franchise (Marvel)

Chris Evans - Captain America franchise (Marvel)

Chris Hemsworth - Thor franchise (Marvel)

Chris Pratt - Guardians of the Galaxy franchise (Marvel)

Chadwick Boseman - Black Panther franchise (Marvel)

Benedict Cumberbatch - Doctor Strange franchise (Marvel)

Paul Rudd - Ant-Man franchise (Marvel)

Tom Holland - Spider-Man franchise (Marvel)

Ryan Reynolds - Deadpool franchise (Fox)

James McAvoy - X-men franchise (Fox)

Will Smith - Suicide Squad franchise (WB)

Gal Gadot - Wonder Woman franchise (WB)

Gal Gadot - Her commitment to the character, to project both strength and compassion. Being able to be serious without being dower and still being able to smile. You can feel radiated from her that the character sees the world as it is and still fighting for what it should be without loosing hope.

What about Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man? He is such a good Tony Stark.

    Um, so where's Henry Cavill?

Not that it really matters. Gal Gadot over him and absolutely anybody and everybody else. The most inspired casting choice in superhero cinema since Christopher Reeve.

Chris Evans. Gadot's too wooden and relies on her supporting cast to boost her performance.

At least you're consistent with your ... erm, imaginative "supporting cast conspiracy" theory.

Boseman is one of my least favourite actors to play a superhero. I think Michael B. Jordan acted better than him in the movie.

In terms of absolutely embodying their character with a truly pitch perfect performance, I have to say Ryan Reynolds. But Deadpool isn't a character that deeply resonates with me, so my personal pick would be Chris Evans, Gal Gadot or Chadwick Boseman. I give Evans the edge right now, but I really feel like that's just because we've seen more of him and the other two are relatively new. Also, I'll give an honorable mention to Paul Rudd's Ant-man who I feel is much better than his movie necessarily deserved and if his sequels step up the quality, he could easily join this group. Also, Tom Holland is tons of fun but still too new to tell.

    I liked Jordan as well.

It's hard to get excited about actors in bad movies, which rules out most Marvel films got me.

Henry Cavill isn't the lead of a current superhero franchise.

Man of Steel underperformed for WB, and consequently... no sequel. No Superman franchise.

I think it's likely they'll reboot Superman next after Matt Reeve's Batman reboot.

This is true. The true strength of the WW film was the director Patty Jenkins, who made a limited actor like Gadot work. Pine did all the heavy lifting.

Conversely, in BVS and JL, under less talented directors, Gal's weaknesses as an actress are exposed.

I still laugh at the awkwardly delivered "Kal-El Nooooo..." scene in JL. It sounds like she's yelling at her dog to stop peeing on the carpet.

Different strokes, I guess. I quite liked that moment (if only to hear Gadot curl that wonderful accent around "Kal-El").

Everything you just said is wrong.

Cavill gets my vote as well, as do Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, and Margot Robbie, whom you also arbitrarily excluded.

I totally agree about Margot Robbie, I should've mentioned her as well, but it's kind of hard to count Momoa as a franchise lead based on JL alone. He's very clearly a secondary character there. Once Aquaman actually comes out, then it's a different story.
