Nope. Acknowledging that something is possible is not in any way the same thing as saying that said thing is going to happen.
I didn't say it did. I said he was wiggling out of it, not that he said definitively it was going to happen. He was opening the door for Rey's parentage to change, which is something some pro-TLJ were crowing about was so great and brilliant about TLJ. I wonder how they will feel if Episode IX changes it? My gut tells me that a great number of them will also feel that it was great and brilliant. That Disney Star Wars can essentially do no wrong. That Disney Star Wars can pardon itself.
I don't see how you saw what I said otherwise than how I said it, though I wonder if there's a rush to see things people want to see so they can be ready to bat it down, to defend and/or reaffirm their own positions or beliefs.
There's been a lot of criticism of TLJ and Disney Star Wars dissidents (and some of it deservedly so) but not enough light is being shined on the Disney/TLJ defenders who sometimes exhibit the same kind of dogmatic absolutism, and some are also not above slinging mud. (I'm speaking in general here and not at you).
As the discussions have gone on I've pulled back. I check the Star Wars boards from time to time, and hit a like or so, but I only responded here because you had replied to something I wrote. But for me, these discussions or debates have just started going around in circles. We'll all get more clarity with Episode IX so there's very little more for me to say about Solo, TLJ, or what have you at this point. And these discussions also made me realize how little I care about Star Wars as a creative, science fantasy universe that I used to love to visit anymore. I am more interested now in how it will fare as a movie franchise/entertainment behemoth. I am curious to see if it can rebound from Solo's failure, what will happen with Kathleen Kennedy, and so forth than I care about the fates of Rey, Poe, Finn, and the Resistance. I don't care if the First Order wins, I don't care if they lose.
I'm going on and on, but it's just an odd sensation for me. This...coldness, this emptiness when it comes to Star Wars now.
So, everyone please continue having at it. The Disney/TLJ dissenters, I'm more on your side than I am on the pro side, and I hope you continue the good fight, but I'm bowing out.
