I was with three friends, it was a first for all of them and two of them loved it. Third one didn't seem very interested to begin with.

I saw it twice in theaters. Almost everyone I know in person who saw it loved it.

TLJ's IMDB score is frozen at 7.3. That's not a rating of a movie most people hate. Add to that the fact that more than half of those people graded it 8 or higher and that a large sum of voters who gave it a 1 are alt-right trolls (don't roll your eyes, this is is true)... Yeah, a considerable chunk of people did not like it, but unpopular movies do not sell 1.3 billion dollars worth of tickets, period.

I've been keeping an eye on Solo's IMDB score as well. At 25,000 votes it had a score of 6.9, with over 9% of voters giving it a "1". Now, at 56,000 votes counted, the score is 7.2, and the percentage of assholes who gave it the lowest grade has dropped to 5.9% (and it will keep on dropping).

The audience score at Rotten Tomatoes is steadily going up as well. It's at 63% now; and it started off in the mid forties.

While he's happy to claim credit for the kill, instead of embellishing his victory as most in his line of work would, he's playing it down. Which to me suggests some combination of false modesty as a way to gain trust and possibly edging his bets just in case she ever pops up again (she survived this after all!) Indeed, that whole thing reeks of a double cross.
Maul survived being cut in half. Probably smart to hedge.

I really hope word of mouth does help this to pick up, it might not be as good as the other Disney SW movies, but it definitely doesn't deserve to do as badly as it has been.

It still boggles my mind that Disney didn't bump this movie to December after the change in directors. Shifting back to a less busy Christmas season would have given the movie some much needed breathing room and probably would have improved its box office. Maybe it still wouldn't have opened to $150+ million but it likely would have done better than $103 million over the four-day Memorial Day weekend. Oh well...

Yeah, I'm still pretty surprised by that decision, especially considering Solo is sandwiched between Infinity War and Deadpool 2 on one side and Incredibles 2 and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (albeit with a bit more breathing room on this side) on the other. Feels like a combination of bad marketing and bad scheduling hurt the film the most.

Not that I really care that much. In the end. I enjoyed the film greatly and will undoubtedly continue to do so for years to come. Everything else is rather meaningless.

Wouldn’t RO featuring Mustafar and Jimmy Smits-as-a-character-not-even-named-until-the-PT have already confirmed that?

Oh, who am I kidding. Of course ‘some people’ wouldn’t be convinced by that.
"Some People" tried to say that Disney's alleged Prequel Embargo is the reason Mustafar wasn't identified with a caption in Rogue One, despite every other planet in the movie getting one.

Yeah, I've been scratching my head on that one all along.

Also actress who played Mon Mothma also played her in ROTS.. In a scene that was cut from the film.

I just assumed it was to not spoil the surprise.

Stupid question alert...

Han is given the last name Solo because he's alone when he goes to see the Imperial recruitment officer. Is this a nod to the old continuity which said something about how Han is an orphan and never knew his family? Like Leeta from DS9?

At first I thought it meant that Corellians only had one name but IIRC there have been a lot of them who didn't.

I only care in the sense that I'd like to see another movie with Ehrenreich as Han, maybe showing whatever happened to him that turned him from the somewhat idealistic young man we see in Solo into the jaded, selfish person we see in A New Hope. That, or a movie focusing more on Glover as Lando having an adventure of his own. So I just worry (well, not literally worry, but you know) that neither might happen after the lukewarm box office. Maybe if it ends up having pretty good legs...

That I can understand. I certainly want a Lando film, preferably with L3 at his side.
