Best thing about the Maul bit, no one can blame Disney for it. That was George Lucas' call back during the Clone Wars cartoons.
IIRC, bringing Maul back on Clone Wars was Filoni's idea, all Lucas contributed to it was giving Maul those weird spider-legs he had in his first episode.

I didn't get the impression that L3's "personality" was transfered, just her navigational data.

After all we're supposed to take her "death" as something meaningful and tragic, they apologize to Lando when they want to take the navigational data/chip from her. This seems to suggest she's "dead" and cannot come back. But if putting her navigational data/processor in the Falcon is enough to make her "alive" again through the Falcon then she's not really dead, is she? There's no reason for Lando to feel upset over the loss of her when it happens if she can easily be restored by moving a chip and putting it into a new body.

There may be some of L3's "personality" in there given some of the lines in other movies when it comes to the behavior of the Falcon's computer; but I'd say on the whole she's "dead" and the only thing that survived was the navigational data.

This was a great time at the movies. I was really turned off of the "Star Wars Stand Alones" by the dour and soulless Rogue One, but this came around 180 degrees opposite and was all the things a great Star Wars movie should be: character-driven, fun, exciting, and filled with heart.

It was George's idea to bring him back, but he left it up to Dave Filoni to figure out how.

I figured some of her residual personality was still there even if not fully "alive" she could still direct the calculations. Lando comments that "she has found a path." So, something is still there.

According to the canon book "Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know" the Falcon has 3 Droid brains, and one of them is from a R3 astromech unit. That fact is also true in Legends.

According to the Movie Guide, L3's brain was from a R3 unit, they tied it back together.

Mine are III, V, VI, IV, I, II.

I don’t know if L-3’s death was supposed to be sad but it off as comic to me. Maybe it was just Troy’s Reaction to it.

I disliked R1 immensely. One of the most forgettable blockbuster-style movies I've ever seen, which is unforgivable for a SW film. I can't remember a single character's name. I have absolutely no idea why so many fans have such a hard-on for this one. What a dreary slog.

Sorry.

Makes the movie even more EU friendly. Shame the others weren’t.

I just got back from watching it. I tried liking it, but it was completely underwhelming. I loved Donald Glover as Lando and that was about it. The Darth Maul cameo was goofy as fuck. In universe, why did Maul feel the need to remove his hood? Then unnecessarily fire up his lightsaber? It had been ruined for me that Maul was in it and I was stoked for the movie because of it.
