Russia already beat them to it.

I just want Marvel to stop trying to make the Inhumans happen, and a Fox buyout might be the only way to do it.
It's kind of a shame what Marvel has done to the Inhumans in the last couple of years. I read some of the very early Inhumans appearances in the 60s (thanks to trades) and found those to be very intereseting, but they are so very different from the more recent series, where the Inhumans are basically the mutants. I don't even want to talk about the tv show...

That's already stopped, hasn't it? The Inhumans were Ike Perlmutter's pet project. When he was involved with the movie division, there were plans to do it as a movie. Once the TV and movie divisions were split and Perlmutter ended up with the TV side, Inhumans became a TV project. And it decisively flopped. So I don't think there's any chance of it being resurrected now, certainly not for the big screen.

I'm not just talking about the tv show. The way they get pushed in the comics is also obnoxious.

The comics just follow the lead of what's popular onscreen. Since the Inhumans bombed, I'd expect the comics to stop emphasizing them.

EDIT: And from Jinn's post, it looks like that's already started.

From what I've heard and read Marvel was basically trying to make the Inhumans the X-Men, which felt like a disservice to both groups. The reason for that seemed to be that Fox had the movie rights and Marvel didn't want to advertise products made by "the enmy" (Although I'm not sure how much of this is conspiracy theory and how much is reality. I can definitely see how there would be some truth in it). Discney buying Fox Studios would certainly fit with the sudden influx of X-Men ongoings (and even minis!) and the whole Death of the Inhumans thing.

It's kinda funny how we had Death of X just a year or two ago, where all the mutants were dying from the gas that activated latent inhuman genes in regular people (like Ms. Marvel) and now we get Death of the Inhumans, were the Inhumans are getting killed off by their creators.

Any news, rumors or anything about future Star Trek novels? At this point I think 2018 novels is probably moot. If a deal were signed today, what would be the earliest we'd see a new novel? I figure no earlier than early 2019. Is that overly optimistic even?

I'm starting to wonder if Pocketbooks will even be in the mix at this point. Are there any other publishers trying to make a run at Star Trek novels. The only one I can think of is Titan but only because of their overseas releases and not because of anything I've heard.

I would think CBS would want Pocketbooks to be the future publisher since they are affiliated, but I guess if someone else came in with a sweet enough deal that could make a difference.

If another publisher got the contract would that affect the current authors? As far as I know the authors don't have any exclusive contracts with Pocketbooks that would prevent them from writing Star Trek books for a new publisher, but then I'm no expert.

Of course if a new publisher came to town I wonder how that would affect the various relaunches--would they continue or would a new publisher decide to go in a different direction....ok I know, I'm getting ahead of myself and there's no way to know something like that, though I grow more concerned about that as time goes on because I've enjoyed all the relaunches and have sort of become invested in the various storylines and characters and would hate to see all that end.

There will be news when there is news, but at this point it's probably safe to say there'll be nothing more in 2018.

As I've said before, there's no reason to suspect Pocket will lose the license to anyone else.

Pocket hires us on a freelance basis; our contracts are for one or more books at a time. Anyone who wants to hire us could hire us.

I know, and I know it's worse for you guys who do this for a living. I can play catch up, and even re-read prior novels that I haven't read in years. It's a bit annoying as a fan, but my life doesn't depend on it.

I just hope for something soon. The silence is deafening at this point and I can't help but feel something is wrong. And I know CBS is the outfit in charge here. But also, in a way, we are all customers, and they should be thrilled to know there are loyal fans like us that are chomping at the bit for more. I still think it'd be in their interest to put out something, even if it's a generic 'we're working on it'. But I find it somewhat concerning that we're not even getting that.
