Not destroyed but shifted considerably-the collapse of the RSE would affect the astropolitics of the alpha quadrant greatly.

It could presage war with the Typhon Pact or lead to the remnants of the RSE being absorbed into the federation.
Also the disappearance of Spock should have an affect on the living characters who knew him.
As enterprise and voyager show us-the federation is alive and well by the turn of the fourth millennium with time ships and time cops-the DTI novellas have expanded on this further-what I want to know is how the federation gets to this point-or if not that at least a general idea of the path the next five centuries IU will take to get to that point.

I''m trying to think of any novels or parts therof that have gone past 2387.

The DTI novellas.

The prologue to the enterprise relaunch-Jake and nog discuss it at the beginning of the 25th century.

I forget the name of the novel-but when Bashir is in Garak's care it's 2388-the epilogue I believe.

Are there any other examples?

Armageddon's Arrow, I believe, had a few chapters that are set in the far future.

I was thinking the same thing. World War III, on the other hand, harder to explain away.

Don't forget about the Sanctuary Districts as well.

When you think about it, if Star Trek was ever prophetic, this would be the wrong century to grow old in. Sanctuary Districts, WWIII (with nuclear weapons no less), drugged soldiers, juryless courts, civilization reduced to almost rubble. There would also be incredible advancements, space travel, manned missions to Saturn, warp drive. So while mankind was making incredible strides we also nearly annihilated ourselves.

I don’t think Disney will be allowed to do that. I’m surprised the government is allowing the Fox buyout.
