Do you play as the opposite sex in games?

Just wondering.

In Defiance I play a female toon as my game character and it was for the most part a lot of fun. That's the only mmo type game I've done, as I usually stick to single player games but if given the choice I always play with a female character and design her the way I want if there are options for that.

So what do the rest of you do in games?

I don’t play games very often, but when the option to play as female is available, I usually take it. Subway surfers, for a recent example.

I find an advantage also is smaller hit boxes for female toons if you are playing a shooter.

yes, given the option I play as a woman 100% of the time

not for gameplay/mechanics based reasons tho - Mass Effect is a well-known example where the experience is improved overall when you choose the female main character (in large part due to Jennifer Hale's outstanding voicework)

I enjoy playing cRPGs, where in a lot of cases a ton of writing went into NPCs reacting to your character's demographics (class, race, alignment, religion, gender/sex etc), so picking a non-vanilla choice often turns out very interesting

No because gameplay wise there is usually no difference, it's a cosmetic change and i don't see the desire for me (male) to play as a female.

Funnily enough back in my roleplaying days guys who'd play female characters often enough played their fantasy woman.. you know, big chested, awesome looks etc. Was interesting to be an amateur psychologist back then :D

Rarely. I don't have many games where there are female characters. The only ones that come to mind are Amy in Sonic Adventure, Peach in Mario Bros 2 / Mario 3D World / Mario Kart, Dixie in DK Tropical Freeze and some of the female characters in Street Fighter games.

When it's an option, yes, almost every time. Don't have a very good answer why exactly as at this point it's mostly just habit. I suppose part of it is that (particularly when it comes to RPGs) I'm not the sort to create a character that's an idealised version of myself as I know a lot of other players do. I prefer to create something that at least feels more original.

Probably the earliest time I remember doing this was with the original Fallout games, but I don't think it became my default until Mass Effect. In that case I can remember starting to create a male Shepard, deciding the default look looked far too much that the cookie-cutter Stubbly McBrownHairedWhiteGuyFace that seemingly just about every game was using around that time and tried to make a custom one. Failed utterly to make one that looked good, so I switched to Femshep.

I play E. Honda when I play Street Fighter. And as Mario in any of the Super Mario series of games.

For Elite Force 1, I did go through as Alexandra, but for the most part, Mass Effect really kicked it off. I do go back and try various different characters later, but especially on any bioware games, my first playthrough has always been female.

I do wish that Alpha Protocol had given you the choice though.

Sometimes I'll play as a woman, but usually only for single player games. I also tend to try to keep them fairly realistic look, so now huge ridiculous boobs or anything like that. I haven't lately, but I did when for Dragon Age: Origins, and while I was male Shepard for my first play through of the Mass Effect trilogy, I think I did at least start one play through with FemShep when I went back and replayed it.
For Multiplayer games I usually pick a guy, and try to make him look at least a little like me.
I played as a guy in Far Cry 5.

Tried, just doesn't feel right.

Another thing that's kind of funny with games is RPG's with multiple option voice prompts, I have tried, I really have to be "the asshole Psycho" in those games and I just can't do it, I end up feeling so bad that I can't maintain it lol.

I also play as a woman in Tomb Raider games. Those games kick buttocks! :techman:

Kor

Unless Lara has a secret penis hidden somewhere .. BTW meant as humour so don't freak out everyone please.

I have a soft spot for old school Tomb Raider games But don't mind the two reboots we got.

It's funny when I design a character for a game where you have the option to do so I tend to create what I think is an ideal character if I choose female. I hate the idea of oversized boobs and exaggerated figure so tend to go for something more along the lines of people I know.

If there is a choice I'll go male to start with, except Fallout 4, I really hated that guys voice.
