Since JJ and the "Star Wars" crowd are on the Movie side, I doubt you'll get either wish.

Star Trek is not a business to me, it's an art, or at least it should be.

Art and business have never really been separate. The vast majority of great historical masterpieces were commissioned by nobles or wealthy merchants.

Also not sure that criticism makes sense in regard to Discovery. Discovery is the Trek that is trying the hardest to be art, out of all six Treks it's the one where commercial viability is the least dominating force. The problem is more they are not successful in most of their attempts to do artistic things.

I'm suspecting that the primary reason that merger hasn't happened is entirely due to Moonves himself...

He's probably toast if the merger happens (and I think he may need to be).
