News Next Arrowverse Crossover to Include Batwoman

I am so out date.

Wiki informs me that Batwoman is someone called Kate Kane and has nothing to do with Barbara Gordon who was Batgirl before she was paralyzed by the Joker and turned into Oracle.

How old is Batwoman supposed to be and will she end up romancing Alex's Maggie Sawyer on Earth 1... or 38?

I noticed there's no mention of Black Lightning in the crossover. Not sure if that ends the debate on whether or not that character is part of the Arrowverse?

I think Cathy Kane age wise is near Bruce Wayne in age and in the current New 52/Rebirth continuity is Bruce Wayne's maternal cousin. Another version of her featured heavily in the post-Crisis continuity in as the main character in Detective Comics during the whole 'Death of Bruce Wayne' storyline and was Maggie Sawyer's lover (though I seem to recall it was Rene Montoya who was her girlfriend). The silver age Batwoman was partnered with a Batgirl who was her niece Bette Kane.

Kate Kane is based on Kathy Kane, the Silver Age Batwoman who was introduced in the late '50s as a love interest for Batman to assuage homophobic suspicions about Batman and Robin. She and the first Bat-Girl, Bette Kane, kinda faded into the woodwork after a few years. The Barbara Gordon Batgirl was created in 1968 at the behest of the Batman TV show producers, who wanted to add a sexy female lead to boost sagging ratings. And she was a much better and more successful character.

No, it just leaves it where it was before, unresolved. BL could always just be on some alternate Earth in the multiverse, available for a crossover once they get around to it. But for now, they're letting him do his own thing. There's no need to rush it.

Batwoman was first rebooted in the "52" miniseries several years ago. (Rumor has it that somebody around here novelized that storyline back in the day.) And, yes, she's a completely different character than Barbara Gordon.

Romantically, she was first involved with Renee Montoya, but later got seriously involved with Maggie Sawyer. (Has Renee appeared on the CW shows yet or just on GOTHAM?) In the comics, she also has a seriously deranged twin sister who is a recurring foe.

She's Bruce Wayne's cousin on his mother's side. (Bruce's mom was Kate's aunt.) She and Batman have worked together on occasion but have kinda a prickly relationship given that he didn't personally train her, as well as the fact that she's perhaps a bit more willing to resort to lethal force when necessary, due to her military training and background.

Origin-wise, she's a former West Point cadet who got kicked out back in the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" era. That backstory is becoming a bit dated as the years go by, so I imagine the TV show will want to update it somewhat.

I wonder why they didn't go for Batgirl. Isn't she more popular to the fans? Any chance they could ever do Catwoman? Of course i'm still waiting for "Supergirl" to find away to use Lex Luthor as well. Was also hoping maybe the "Smallville" version. Use to hope to see Cloe as well but I think we all know that will never happen in a million years.

As I suggested uptopic, the DCEU's plans for Batgirl may well have been a factor at play in the character's availability to the Arrowverse producers.

As extravagantly as I adore Rosenbaum's brilliant portrayal of Lex on Smallville, I don't think it would work to use him in the role on Supergirl (since the shows clearly take place in different continuities and already have their own distinct versions of multiple characters, including Kara herself).

Actually, no reason it couldn't, since as with Rosenbaum/Lex, it would make little sense to have Mack play her in any case. After the delightful surprise of the Chloe namedrops in "Midvale," I think it would be great to introduce a new Supergirl version of the character, and let her join the long list of Superman legacy characters who have been interpreted by multiple actors in multiple incarnations.

Just on TV for Batgirl. In the comics it's her natural hair.

Hence "and/or."

I wonder why they didn't go for Batgirl.

No doubt because the movie division is developing a Batgirl feature film. Joss Whedon was attached to it for a while and couldn't work it out, but now they've hired Christina Hodson to script it and are looking for a female director.

There's also the factor that these producers like to highlight LGBTQ characters.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're saving Catwoman for the BATMAN movies and/or the HARLEY QUINN girl gang movie they keep talking about.

And would it be an issue that another version of Selina is already a big part of GOTHAM?

Part of me almost wonders (and this sheer speculation on my part) if the the news that GOTHAM is winding down made landing Kate easier.

"So, GOTHAM guys, you've only got one season left. You planning to do anything with Batwoman?"

"Nope, she's all yours."

I think Allison Mack is going to be too tied up with "real life" to consider guesting on SG.

Tied up is probably not the best use of words in a sentence that also includes, Allison Mack in it. It's like asking if you think "Deadpool 2" will bomb because of T,J Miller is in it.

Since redheads seem to be banned in superhero franchises, I wonder what colour her hair will be?

Flaming red or I riot!

Technically in the comics her real hair is a buzz cut(still red!) and she wears a wig with the costume so I guess 2014 Karen Gillan would be perfect for the role. :D

(I vote they cast Rose Leslie though :techman:)
