I know about Spot but Maybe he was a special case for data.

The answer must be yes. Spot was pregnant one day. She met another cat, obviously the pet of someone else.
Never saw any dogs, but the crew members could take their kids to the holodeck to let them play with animals.
Picard has a fish in his ready room. And horses he creates on the holodeck. So anything is possible, at least aboard ENT-D. Other starships not carrying families with them might go without animals.

I'm fairly certain Mr Data mentions there are other pets, and because like he doesn't know who Spot's mate was, there must be several male kitties on board?

    From Genesis:

BARCLAY: I'm curious, sir. Who's the father?
DATA: I am not certain. Spot has escaped from my quarters on several occasions and there are twelve male felines on board. I intend to run a full DNA analysis on the kittens once they-

So, that would have to mean cats wondering around the corridors. It can't mean the magical doors open for cats, 'cause them...

    1. Cats would certainly be wondering the corridors.
    2. Spot has to enter quarters to find a male cat.
    3. The magical doors would them have to let him out.
    4. There would be a record of door activity, would there not? No DNA test necessary; Data could process this in mere seconds with the ship's computer.

And if there are cats, there are dogs. So, cats and dogs, living together!

Only if allergies have been cured.

and if owners clean up after their pets' little poo-poos'n'lemonades like how they don't do in the early 21st century, latter 20th century, earlier 20th century, 19th century, and so on.

And if animals' IQ rose so they wouldn't press buttons or slide things off of countertops to get their owners to play with them. When Kitty wants to sya "Hello" by slapping her claw laden paw onto the button blinking "Self destruct: Do not press (unless you really want to)"...

And if Charlton Heston were 1st Officer. "Get your stinking paws off of me you damn dirty bowser!" (with respect to the episode of "The Critic" where I borrowed that line from...)

I'm pretty sure the cats just jump up and hit the panel next to the door to get out, and service robots that we never see (but logically must exist) vacuum up the kitty fur and... other leavings.

So, what happens to the pets when the owner decides he or she no longer wants them for some reason? Is there a pet brig? An airlock? Absorbed by a replicator for reclaim purposes?

When they die, there is nowhere to bury them, so .. torpedoed out into space?

    OMG that's so horrible!

I'd imagine in that future people wouldn't just casually discard their pets, they'd respect and care for them. If someone couldn't take care of his or her pet anymore I'm sure someone else on board would love to take over, or they'd find some loving solution. I'd think pets would possibly be cremated, people do that so very often now with furry friends who pass.

I think cats would be easier than dogs since cats use a litterbox.

^ I've known people with medium sized dogs that are box trained. You live in a apartment tower and own a dog it's a must.

If there are pets, then there going to be someone who function as a vet. If you no long want your pet then you would have them euthanized.

Sickbay might serve as the vet for pets (people would come first of course), if a doctor can easily treat hundred of intellignt species, figuring out the inside of a dog or cat shouldn't be too hard.

That would have to be the case i guess.

edit: I know someone who has tiny dogs that are also box trained. he says he can't let the dogs outside because of the hawks.

Even if your pet is perfectly healthy? That feels so barbaric to me. :(

or maybe you can see if anyone else wants it instead of just killing a perfectly healthy living thing.

I would imagine it would be exactly the same as now. If you don't want your pet or can no longer care for it you take it to a shelter or see if anyone else wants it.
