There are vanishingly few cases, I think, where two independent science fiction franchises could legitimately "fit" in the same universe without the need for fudging details or resorting to alternate realities. After all, SF universes tend to make their own assumptions about how the laws of physics work (e.g. how FTL travel works, whether FTL communication is possible, etc.), how the geography of the galaxy is laid out (e.g. the same star system may host different aliens in two different universes), how history unfolded from the present to the series's future, etc. So they can rarely fit together. For instance, back when the Alien Nation TV series was on, I sometimes wished it could be set in Star Trek's past because it covered such similar themes and social commentary, but there was no way to reconcile the presence of aliens on Earth in the early 1990s with the Eugenics Wars, first contact, and the like. And there were some fans who wanted Dark Matter and Killjoys to cross over, and though it seemed clear to me that Killjoys was set much, much further in the future, I was willing to buy that they were in the same universe... until Killjoys revealed that FTL communication was a novelty in their era even though it was routine in DM. (Although I suppose it's possible that the knowledge could've been lost in some civilizational collapse and rediscovered millennia later.)

Gary Graham and Eric Pierpoint appeared both in Star Trek and Alien Nation. I wish they would show the latter on German TV again. Star Trek is repeated time and again. At least they show TOS again, but not prime time of course.

I really do hope that they will come out with some sort of Hobus novel and the consequences and aftermath therein. Finally taking the novelverse past 2387.

Yeah, and Graham played two different Trek characters while Pierpoint played five. So that wouldn't preclude a crossover in itself.
The story about Alien Nation and it's time on the air is fascinating. Getting 22 episodes with good ratings for FOX, ending on a cliffhanger, getting cancelled due to financial trouble at FOX and getting 5 made for TV movies years later after a management change.

My 3 favorite sci fi shows/events for social commentary were Trek, Alien Nation and the V miniseries. Truly the best of what the genre can offer.

It wasn't financial trouble. At the time, FOX was only on a few nights a week, and they wanted to add another night of programming to their schedule, which meant commissioning more shows. And they calculated that they could make 4 half-hour sitcoms, basically a whole new night's worth, for the same cost as Alien Nation alone, since it was a pretty expensive show thanks to all the makeup, location shooting, and action. It was a tough decision, since they really liked the show, but something had to give if they wanted to expand.

The ironic thing is, they tried for years to bring back the show with TV movies or something, then gave up and let Pocket do novels adapting the movie scripts, then decided to make the movies after all, albeit rewritten so they no longer matched the novel versions. And the first movie, since it was 5 years later, basically decanonized the cliffhanger season finale, retold the setup for the cliffhanger in a different and simpler way in the opening minutes, and ignored most of the other cliffhanger plots. (Which I actually appreciated, since I thought it was really contrived how "Green Eyes" had practically every character have something horrible happen to them at the same time.)

Look, I tried to help you guys out, but you weren’t having it.

Your loss.

^I came here to post the same article!

It certainly looks like Mom and Dad are fighting again kids? It's not your fault but you'll have to go without new clothes while the lawyers divide assets...

If things are that badly in flux it could definitely explain things. Sadly this sounds like the kind of thing that could potentially drag on for a while.

The previous license expired at the end of 2016 and I’m sure negotiations would have started before then in anticipation of the uninterrupted publication of new novels.

This is a recent development and is more of a corporate thing.

I doubt that it has any bearing on the day to day operations of either company.

If you can get Brit channels there, I think it’s running on one of our free view channels atm. Possibly horror. Maybe one of the sky channels.

I think Killjoys was set in a closed off colony system no? So they had a get out there.
