MLB World Series 2018: Eh. Dodgers/Boston. Eh.

How many are there? Off the top of my head Wrigley (I don't care how nice the renovations are, it's still a garbage scow), the Trop, Oakland Coliseum and ... ?

And there are obstacles to all of them. The Rays are facing serious political and public resistance to a new stadium, Wrigley got a shit-ton of public financing for its renovations so like hell if the Cubs are going anywhere, and the A's can't move to San Jose until the Giants stop being shitlords.

Dodger Stadium needs a better way to actually get to the ballpark, but that might mean restructuring the entire LA freeway system. Other than that, I actually like Dodger stadium.

Yeah, it was basically Oakland and Tampa Bay that i was thinking of.

(Wrigley, though? I don't see most Cub fans putting up with replacing that one. Redsox fans wouldn't dare let Fenway be replaced anytime soon, would they? There was an attempt to do so but it got shot down quick...)

And while I'm of course not privy to any of the political horseshit that may be happening in Tampa...as for the Athletics, now that the Warriors and Raiders are gone I should think that the A's could work out some kind of a deal to build a new stadium on the existing site. They wouldn't even have to demolish the Coliseum until the new one is done.

I'm intrigued by the 'ski lift' system they're working on. Yeah, it's unfortunate that L.A.'s pitiful excuse for a subway doesn't go to Dodger Stadium, but this is definitely promising. Anything other than driving, that's fine by me! :techman:

I did too - except for the hot dogs.

Before I went there, everybody kept telling me to have a Dodger Dog. So I did. And I can honestly say it was the worst hot dog I have ever eaten in my life. Burned up and shriveled. :barf:

Edit: In regards to the thread title. Ichiro may not be an active player anymore, but he's still not technically retired, is he? Meaning, the countdown to his inevitable election to the HOF (and his number being retired) doesn't start yet, does it?

speaking of which I should hope the Mariners would retire #51 jointly for Ichiro AND the Big Unit. Just sayin'.

You don't go to Los Angeles for a hot dog.

The seats we have at the Angels/Dodgers series this summer have in-seat delivery of sushi.

That's how you baseball, SoCal style.

Jesus, he took a quick turn down with the organization. Even though this whole thing was a disaster in slow motion, it still feels like it escalated quickly.

Not according to pathological liar Sandy Alderson, who said this has been “a long time coming”. The Mets are a tire fire.

Dodger Stadium is probably still my all-time favorite stadium experience. I was like 12 years old at the time, though. :p

Wrigley is a fucking dump and it's in a terrible location. Tom Ricketts has made it clear that the team is never leaving as long as he owns it, but it still sucks.

The A's have actually proposed buying the Coliseum outright and financing a renovation themselves. Hoping that goes through if San Jose continues to be a non-starter.

But would you honestly be surprised if there's an outcry amongst other Cubs fans if the team even hints at moving out of Wrigley? Would you expect the rest of the fanbase to be as amenable to replacing it as you are?

Same goes for the Redsox re: Fenway. I always assumed that fans of both teams would never, under any circumstances, accept a new stadium - no matter how much one may be needed. (Why else do you think the new Fenway Park never got off the ground?)

I would not, but that doesn't mean they aren't wrong. In any event, it's a non-issue; again, with the $500 million or so that Ricketts used of his dad's dirty money to renovate the place, they aren't going anywhere.

.
That was a mess because the idea was just to take 180 million in land from owners just southwest of the current Fenway Park. Like let's destroy several blocks of Boston that are developed made the whole thing DOA.

That was nearly 20 years ago.

Dodger Stadium (1962) has been churning up sewage onto the field, and then there's that sewage pipe that broke ;)

Well, here's one Red Sox fan that wants a new stadium. Make it a replica of Fenway only bigger and build it an area where you could have proper parking.
I used to be in the save Fenway at any cost camp but no park lasts forever.

A renovation? :wtf: Talk about putting lipstick on a pig.

Structurally speaking, the Coliseum is in pretty decent shape and if they can remove shit like Mount Davis, the Coliseum would be in better shape.

Infrastructurally speaking, it's an absolute mess and will require basically the entirety of the plumbing (and probably HVAC and electrical) to be redone, which is why the A's have told Oakland-Alameda County and the cities of Oakland and Alameda that they'll buy it from them for a song (I think the A's offer was to buy it for the total value of all parties' current debt on the stadium), but they aren't paying a premium.
