Who is Your Favorite Starfleet Admiral?

No votes for Kirk so far. Of course, I guess it would have helped his cause if he had acted like an admiral instead of using the Enterprise as his flagship.

No votes for Kirk 'cause I had asked everyone who their favorite Admiral was who had never been a main character on one of the Trek shows. Otherwise, lots of people might say Kirk and/or Janeway. That is, of course ignoring when Riker was once tricked into thinking that Picard was an Admiral in Future Imperfect. It also ignores Admiral Archer (though we never see him onscreen as an Admiral).

In all seriousness, Admiral Ross was the first to come to mind. I totally forgot about Admiral Forrest until I read this thread.

I also enojyed Admiral Marcus, and Admiral Riker (AGT).

Honorable mentions to Admiral Janeway (Endgame and Nemesis), and Admiral Picard (Future Imperfect)

Strange how Sisko and Archer never became Admirals in one future or another. But I guess Archer gets a pass being a founder/President of the Federation, and Sisko gets one for becoming a prophet entity living a non-linear lifestyle.

Another vote for Alynna Nechayev. Tough as nails, takes no nonsense, doesn't play favourites, she may not win many popularity contests among the Captains of the fleet but she knows how to look at the big picture and make the tough calls.

Strange how Sisko and Archer never became Admirals in one future or another. But I guess Archer gets a pass being a founder/President of the Federation, and Sisko gets one for becoming a prophet entity living a non-linear lifestyle.

In the novelverse, Archer does become an Admiral (prior to his political career).

I know it says admiral, but I'm going to include some commodores, since that is equivalent to rear admiral, lower half.

Commodore Robert Wesley. A good, competent starship commander. Great to see another good officer who isn't on the Enterprise.

Commodore Stone. Also competent. He had to do an unpleasant duty, and was a professional about it.

Commodore Stocker. Even though he was completely out of his command element and therefore completely incompetent, he was basically a good guy. He didn't even want to take command for command sake, and (as I recall) first tried to get Spock to assume command. Not power hungry, but just trying to do what he felt was best for the ship and her crew, including the ailing officers.

You said main characters that became Admirals "in the movies", which only covers Kirk and Janeway and (partially) Archer. I guess Pike, too, despite their being a vote for him.

My vote for McCoy should count, since that was on TV. In non-canon media, we get Admirals Spock, Sulu, Chekov, Uhura, Picard, Riker, Crusher, Data, Sisko, Chakotay, Tuvok, the Doctor, and Seven of Nine.

Big plus: After it was over Commodore Stocker had the decency and self confidence to basically publicly apologize to a lower ranking officer (Kirk).

Admiral Nechayev. I loved how she chewed out Picard for his handling of the Hugh situation, and how she told Riker that Riker was not the man to lead the Enterprise in Picard's absence in "Chain of Command".

Admiral Ross. He seemed like a mild mannered guy, the perfect complement to Sisko. And he quoted General Douglas McArthur at the surrender ceremony.

Archer does become an Admiral according to the database on board the Constitution class Defiant. Also, according to Orci the Admiral Archer mentioned in Trek XI is supposed to be Jonathan Archer.

As for Sisko, Ira Behr wanted to promote him during the Dominion War, but Berman forbade it for some reason.
