I came across some trailers today for this fan film, and it looks like it has potential

It is currently in pre-production. They claim to have professionally trained actors cast and a great story to tell. Whilst it is set in war time, it is not going to be all ‘pew, pew, pew’. DS9 is an inspiration for them in this regards.

Due to a modest budget, it is going to be a history documentary (or what some might call a ‘mockumentary’ ;)) style of film. This documentary is produced by Memory Alpha sometime after the destruction of Romulus, but retelling the historical events of what took place during the post ENT era. Featuring, “Captain's logs, eyewitness video, journal entries, and period photographs combine with "found footage" of the war's key conflicts to realistically depict a world where mankind's very survival is at stake.”

The people behind this have also said that it will honour the ‘spirit’ of the fan film guidelines. Although in the first trailer it appears that they have used some clips from official Star Trek productions which from my point of view is a bit worrying. What do you think?

Edit: A Trekyards interview about this fan production came out today.

Spirit of the fan films guidelines does not sound promising. Maybe they are expecting to get exceptions like we saw recently or they are also going to go the route of noncompliance cut to donors and public cut within guidelines.

It looks like a promising project but due to the above I personally won’t donate.

Oh I bet at least that MACOs scene is lifted from pro footage. If it is, then they're going to get a nice letter.

There is also a Reman scene from Nemesis, either that or they have great makeup artists.

I am hoping that the use of clips from official Star Trek productions is just in the trailer only. Once they have shot more footage of their own I hope they will stop doing it. Still it is not a good start.

The thing Is cbs doesn’t want to have to send out lettters and negotiate and police fan films. The more fan films that make them do that then the worse for all.
