We could've had the First Asian Female Captain, but no....

i think captain georgiou is the most successful character in the series so far.

it's not an easy task to get the audience to mourn the death of a character they are just being introduced to, but that's exactly what i did the entire season. the long shadow she casts is due almost entirely to yeoh's performance in the first two episodes. it's the reason we're even discussing her still.
I agree, I miss Georgiou. It didn't hit me until I saw her in hologram form in episode 4 but after that I wanted her back. Mirror Georgiou is a different person but I was really happy when Michael grabbed her and brought her onto Discovery, her presence doesn't make me miss prime Georgiou less but I'm glad Michelle Yeoh is still around.

I'd have really loved a story where they had the Shenzhou under Georgiou and the Discovery under Lorca tackling an issue together where the conflict came from their differing styles and philosophies. That's kind of what I imagined going into the show, actually.

There tends to be more shitty admirals than decent ones throughout the franchise. They would have some wacky scheme that forced the crew to disobey orders, either they would just be corrupt or controlled by a worm puppet. Others would just let some abuse go on for too long.

Janeway was a decent admiral though.

She gave Picard all the best assignments

I actually thought the same, it was like one of the differences this version of Trek was going to explore.

Janeway must have been doing SOMETHING right. She was a four-pip Admiral within a year and a half of getting back home from the Delta Quadrant whereas Kirk brought back his Enterprise from arguably the most legendary mission of exploration in Starfleet history and yet had to settle for a Rear Admiral's braids on his sleeves. :)

Janeway is unmatched.

But not a Mary Sue, like Burnham
No she's not. We got to see seven seasons of 26 episodes of Janeway struggle and often fail as opposed to fifteen episodes of Mary Sue Burnham. I know it's considered cute to make false equivalents but they are strawmen.

Starting unnecessary threads to continue this bandwagon jumping upsets some people. The point has been thoroughly discussed in multiple threads, including this one.
Right. Except in threads based on a different subject it annoyed people for it to be hijacked.

I think e should have a really in depth debate about the meaning of the phrase "Mary Sue". Who's up for it?

Um... seriously I wouldn't unless you want a padlock in it. Apparently just discussing it in other threads is the way to go.
