We could've had the First Asian Female Captain, but no....

There tends to be more shitty admirals than decent ones throughout the franchise. They would have some wacky scheme that forced the crew to disobey orders, either they would just be corrupt or controlled by a worm puppet. Others would just let some abuse go on for too long.

Janeway was a decent admiral though.

I think's possible that Janeway was a decent Admiral but we didn't really see much of her. The first Admiral Janeway though from the season final I think might fit under the bad Admiral category. Goes back in time altering the future and then she doesn't even go back far enough to save Carry or any other people have died. Plus how many planets did "Voyager" help during those 11 extra years that won't be helped since Voyager was able to get back to the AQ.

One Admiral though that deserves more respect is Nachevev. She was hard nosed and she was kind of naive to Sisko when she I think underestimated the Maquis ability to stop fighting on Ds9's "The Maquis" two parter, which I just watched again yesterday. Otherwise she was a sound leader.

It's like the Main Stream Media news, they only focus on the bad. They never focus on the day to day / mundane / good stuff.

It's a VERY skewed perspective.

Archer was a good Admiral. And a fair President of the Federation.

What he lacked in physical confrontation skills he more than made up for in gazelle references and diplomatic and political skills.

And he could take a punch or two...or ten.

We don’t know what he was like as a President yet. Hopefully we get there soon.

I'm being optimistic. I mean, come on. The guy was the greatest explorer of the 22nd century and owned a beagle.

How can he not be an awesome President? ;)

Never understood the role of the President. We all know that whoever controls the Enterprise controls the Federation. :)

When people complain about Section 31 they completely forget about the Maquis

Didn't forget, just don't see the similarities. The Maquis are a 'rebel alliance' type group resulting from Federation compromises in Cardassian border disputes. I'm really not seeing a parallel to s31, who probably wouldn't give a toss about them. They seem a 'greater good' sort of folk.

Also the very fact that Starfleet had a Intelligence branch seems or marines
Starfleet marines are non canonical. An intelligence branch is not the same thing as a genocide branch.

He was a despicable war criminal and a pompous hypocrite. Whilst these may be relatively common traits for presidents in these days, I hope that in the future they can do better.

Ah yes, the Starfleet Department of Targeted Genocide.

War criminal?
Or a pirate. But that is too romantic description for such a banal individual. Ask the Illyrians, they know. And of course there is that incident with Valakians, which was, if possible, even more despicable. And the guy even had nerve to lecture to others about morals. I'm sure that as a president he was Federations' equivalent of Trump.
