Voyager fans.. are you disappointed about Discovery?

Well maybe but as a member of Starfleet as such they should have been briefed on it's existence! I'm not that bothered myself, Sophie, as I don't count DSC as a Trek same as ENT which I found to be too much trouble continuity wise! :bolian:

I think they should have been, but it doesn't seem like they were. However it seems in DS9 everyone in the mirror universe was aware of the prime universe.

What we can conclude from this is that the DSC universe isn't in the TOS reality! Whatever the suits want us to believe there was no war between the Klingons and the Federation until the invasion of Organia in Errand of Mercy and that was prevented by the Organians themselves!

Agreed completely. I am enjoyong this show by considering it an alternate universe

Yeah, the first mirror episode features Bashir and Kira traveling there. Kira's counterpart tells her some history, and when she(our Kira) relays this to Bashir, he says something like "Ahh, of course! The transporter accident. So that's where we are!"

There's also the little thing about mirror universe humans being sensitive to light in DISCO (hence the darkly lit USS Discovery, at the behest of her captain), but in "Mirror, Mirror" the bridge was as bright as usual with no Ill effects.

Maybe they're lying. How on mirror earth could Georgeiu know that terrans are more sensitive to light than humans? Have mirror people been making trips to the Federation?

There are way too many differences to be accepted for me! The Mirror universe has already been explored in the first season despite TOS not encountering that reality until it's second year! And that means that Kirk and co. must have known of it's existence when they crossed over or if not why not? The best answer here is to regard DSC as an alternate universe like the new movies or just disregard it entirely!
JB
it really doesn't mean that. Starfleet certainly doesn't appear to have standing orders to tell officers everything. I mean, there's that whole Omega Molecule Thing in VOY, among others.

The conker headed Klingons are not the same ones as we've seen over the years! They are much TOO different to be the same species and even if they were shouldn't they be suffering from the Augment virus as seen in Enterprise?

Sudanese, who are deep black, look very different from traditional Japanese. Texans are strikingly unlike Turks in culture. Yet all these, and others, are equally human. Scots Gaelic is very unlike Chinese, which is unlike Greek. Gaelic is at least as alien to the average English-speaker as Magyar (the language of Hungary) would be. Sometimes people are utterly unlike in almost every conceivable way, and yet they are all members of the human race.

The differences between the Klingons most definitely deserve a convincing historical, cultural and ethnological explanation, however. We the viewers should not have to concoct one - that is for the producers to do. Maybe one can be added later. But it will need to be a good explanation, and it will need to be added in a way that does not wreck the story.

It's hard to reconcile the Klingons of Discovery with the Klingons in TOS. There's a ten year gap...

I'm just hoping at some point they give us a good simple reason for the difference.

I guess I just never understood why the producers would insist that its in the prime timeline but then change so much. Wouldn't it just be easier to say it's an alternate universe? Then you can do anything you want without violating canon.

That would break continuity, though. What I don’t understand is why the Klingons had to be changed so drastically. Poor decision, IMO. There must be a few fics that explain the difference in their appearance. But fics should not need to.

If there are different Klingon races, which have undergone differing evolutions, the difficulty vanishes. But Klingon ethnology is not my forte

Probably some megalomaniac producer who just had to put his mark on the product and who didn't gave a s**t if he screwed up what's been established in Star Trek.

Just like that Abrams when he just had to blow up planets who actually existed hundreds of years later in TNG, TOS and Voyager.

That's one of the main reasons I won't watch NuTrek until they start to come up with good stories, good characters and good series again. If it ever does? :(

It is established that the Abrams movies are in fact in an alternate universe. They can blow up whatever they want. They actually SAY in the movie that they are in an alternate timeline.

Apart from the turtle heads in TMP, TNG, DS9 and VOY looking slightly different, there are differences in the TOS Klingons too! The crew of Koloth's ship are a lot more human-like and pale compared to say the Klingons in Day of The Dove! The Klingon in Elaan of Troyius is the same type while Kras is more similar to people in Kirk's crew than he is to say Kor's troops in Errand of Mercy! And a lot of them are beardless compared to later Klingons!
JB

Maybe... but I'm not buying it. There is a significant difference in the Discovery Klingons. These particular Klingons ALL look the same without significant variation beyond skin colour. They do not fit with what is to come.
