Donny's TOS Enterprise Interiors

The idea is that the walls of the cabinet are magnetic, so instead of needs for hooks, the metal (and transparent aluminum) tools just stick to the sides. Again, another very TOS idea. My original idea was to store all the tools in this cabinet anyway, but because I'd originally modeled the scanner at a scale too big, not much else would fit. Thoughts?
Magnets make a lot of sense for storage areas. My only reluctance to the idea is that we see a lot of other areas in the ship where magnets would come in handy but they're obviously not in use, as we see things fall over and topple from shelves. So would you consider that a break from the reality of the show?

I'm looking at the outline of the "006P Energy Unit" in the bottom view... I know, I'm sure it's some sort of futuristic power source, but juging by the shape, it's the 23rd century and we're still using 9V batteries. :p

Yeah.

I don't have my TM handy so I can't quote from it, but IIRC in the front matter there is a backstory involving the events of "Tomorrow Is Yesterday" of an accidental transmission of the TM by the Enterprise to Earth of the 1960s, which is subsequently sanitized by Starfleet (using time travel) to remove elements that would disrupt the course of history and to substitute 20th century technology as necessary. :p ;)

One of my old friends who was a HAM operator once took a look at the schematics for the communicator's interior and said it looked like a very basic CB radio layout, miniaturized. Same transistor configuration and everything. I was never into that so I couldn't verify, but it's possible that FJ was an old HAMmer and through in an Easter egg for those who knew. That may have been one of the "substitutions".

Yeah.

Just so. The effort to create verisimilitude is laudable, but I think Starfleet Quartermaster Division should change the ribbon on the Royal electric typewriter they used.

Finished up all 7 variants of the Type 7 computers (categorized and documented wonderfully by @feek61) last weekend:

And the 3 wall-mounted faces we see in "That Which Survives":

And got started on the officer's quarters set this weekend:

I bumped up the quarters set in my schedule due to professional reasons: I really need to get better at digital sculpting. All the sculptures and knick-knacks seen in the quarters of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Rand, and others will require me to engage in more sculpting practices, so it will help me be a better rounded CG artist. I kept pushing it off, but it's time. More to come soon!

Great work as always, Donny! I'm really impressed that you've kept up with this project even after you're working in 3D modeling as your day job.

That looks great. Are you going to make a bathroom area too?

I'll let Donny answer that one...

Hey, guys. I've started on modeling the quarters and one of my goals is to model the bathroom accommodations on-board the Enterprise, and I posed a thread with questions regarding bathing/grooming onboard the TOS Enterprise here: https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/bathing-grooming-in-the-tos-era.293795/.

I invite everyone to go to that thread and join in on the fun of answering these tough questions. ;)
