They didn't want to fire him because he was filling a demographic.
I thought the main reason why they fired her is that they wanted to keep Wang.

But that doesn't explain why they couldn't have brought her back, after they fired Wang that is.

If we take their word for it(The producers and Lien), the departure was amicable. They wanted to bring Seven on, and she was filling a role equivelent to Kes.
Whatever the reasons were, we have to assume they were legitimate ones, until we hear otherwise. As for Wang, we don't know if he was going to be killed off or not. All we have is urban legend, unless someone has a source.
There are interviews where Lien said the split was amicable. Her contract was not renewed, she said she didn't question it and moved on with her life. The most common situatuon in Hollywood. To have a job for 7 years in that industry is super rare
I believe it all has to do with $$$. Budget has x dollars. New actor in....old actor out.

I'm not sure I can agree with you on this one Prax. Seven was a loner who didn't care about the crew and was not very empathetic. She also had no telepathic skills.
Kes was like a ship's counselor. She championed causes like seeing if the Vadiians could cure the Captain and the Commander in Resolution. She went to Janeway about how the doctor was being treated in Eye of the Needle. She even knew where all the crew quarters were in Twisted.
Her psychic powers played into Then and Again, Persistence of Vision, Cold Fire, and Scorpion to name a few.
7 was never that.
