^ If you read Berg and Harberts' actual quotes - which I cited directly - they clearly ARE ruling out Spock showing up, in spite of what that tiny single-sentence piece of the article says.

In any event, these producers don't tell reporters the truth. So...
No, it doesn't.
"The producers are careful to say", "We certainly aren't confirming that we're even going to introduce Spock", and "[we certainly aren't confirming] that we certainly are not casting that role".
Translation: we confirm nor deny nothing. It's a non-answer. They aren't saying "#nospockever". They're saying "I'm not answering your question".
Like I said, you keep on believing that Discovery will be announcing a Spock casting... and while you're at it, go ahead and send a letter to Santa Claus.
Of course they won't announce the casting. They didn't announce the Enterprise appearing in the finale, either.
It's entirely possible they could get Mr. Quinto to play Spock for ST: D - hell he did VO for the Star Trek Online MMO tutorial, so you never know. he might be affordable for them in this instance.

IIRC, someone with inside knowledge on this forum claimed that a Pike-focused spinoff will begin airing between DIS Season 2 and 3. This would almost certainly require there to be someone cast in the role of Spock - if not already, then by that time.
Of course, I've never understood how this Pike show will be made distinctive enough from Discovery - especially considering Discovery seems to be moving towards the "classic Trek" format itself.
I fear you're trying to apply artistic reasoning to a business decision. They've got eight more months of the year to convince fans to pay for.
Shame this came too late for poor George Takei. The adventures of Captain Sulu would finally be a go. (And may yet, without him.)
