As with VOY, DS9 and TNG, here's your chance to rework the prequel series, how would you do it?

Like VOY, I find ENT to be a missed opportunity which was overall disappointing. Rather than having a crew that seemed to have no idea what they were doing I'd start the show in 2161, just after the Romulan War and the formation of the Federation. Personally, I'd love to see a Daedalus-Class ship as the centre of the action, launched as a beacon of hope for the new organisation moving forward after the war, with a mixed crew serving onboard. Whilst DS9 dealt with stories about being in the midst of a devastating interstellar war, the Prequel would focus on the struggles of rebuilding after it, working with allies in close quarters, and trying to decide just what the form and function of Starfleet will be. It would offer a great chance for character conflict and development, dealing with those who suffered losses in the war and how they come to terms with that, humans having to deal with alien perspectives in a way that will help them to operate a ship. The Daedalus would be involved in the reconstruction work on the frontier, before heading out on an exploratory mission.

Captain Alexander Chase: Commanding Officer. Something of a hero in the Earth fleet, he took command of the Cheron strike force when the flagship was destroyed and led the squadron to the victory that turned the tide of the war. Though decorated for his combat skills and tactical prowess, he had always wanted to serve on the scouts that ventured out further than any other ship. He has doubts about commanding a mixed crew, but he knows his duty and having fought along side the other species in the Federation he does have a great respect for them--he just doesn't know how they'll work together onboard she same ship.
Commander Thylethik th'Shran: Executive Officer. A proud Andorian who has the enviable task of being the highest ranking alien on an Earth designed ship, which sees a lot of resentment from others on the crew (especially the person who thought the job was rightly theirs). Though soft-spoken he is a forthright and courageous man who actually turned down command of a ship in the Andorian Guard in order to take this post.
Lt. Commander Joanna Stiles: Chief Helm Officer. Having served under Chase for several years the two have formed a good relationship, with her being all but assured of a promotion to XO on his next command, until Shran was assigned. She has lost many family in the war and hides her pain behind a blunt and adversarial front, as such only Chase knows of all that she's lost.
Lt. Commander Charles Tucker III: Chief Engineering Officer. One of the engineers responsible for designing the Daedalus, he was given the rare opportunity to see the ship in action. Smart, sharp and with charm to spare, he is a likable fellow though knows how to keep his crew on their toes. With little chance to work with aliens before, he is enjoying the opportunity he has been afforded--so long as they don't badmouth his engine.
Lieutenant T'Pol: Chief Science Officer. The sole Vulcan onboard, so since her people took a step back from active engagement in the war, she faces a lot of bitterness and resentment from others onboard, not that it bothers her nor would she show it if it did. Her talents as a scientist cannot be faulted, though she does have difficulty trying to work with her overly emotional shipmates.
Lieutenant Greht chim Xag: Chief Navigation Officer. A Tellarite who likes to be heard, even when his opinions aren't sought. Arrogant, belligerent and harsh, he doesn't hold himself back which riles up many of his new shipmates which makes him difficult to work with. Unfortunately, he is probably the best navigator available otherwise there would be no reason to keep him around.
Lieutenant Hoshi Sato: Chief Security Officer. From a family with a long military lineage she grew up knowing that she would serve, though she had misgivings she did as was expected of her. She served with distinction during the war, but that just cemented that she wanted more from her life, she's just not sure what. Until she finds a new path she will do her duty with her customary diligence.
Lieutenant (j.g.) Suyasii zh'Tarah: Chief Communications Officer. A skilled linguist and translator, she picks up languages very quickly, she is also high adept at decryption and information retrieval. She appears to be very accepting of others and supportive of the Federation, though in truth she is spying on the ship for the Andorian Guard, who have misgivings over the venture.
Doctor Phlox: Chief Medical Officer. From one of the many planets of the Rigel System he was a member of the Interspecies Medical Exchange prior to the war and volunteered to help out during the conflict, which saw him serving on the frontlines, tending to the wounded from every allied species involved in the fighting. Calm, measured and compassionate, he takes his work personally and will do all he can to save lives.

That's great stuff, really. Can you somehow force your way on to Discovery's writing staff?

Back on point, I like how you included Trip, T'Pol, Hoshi and Phlox in your crew; I assume they would be played by CT, JB, LP, and (the other) JB. I liked them all. CT gave probably the best overall performance in the whole series. His material with Blalock was just fabulous.

Including Andorians and Tellarites in the crew is another great idea. We still know so little about them. It would be fascinating to see a true mixed-race crew instead of a human-dominated crew with one alien.

Finally, as a military geek I love that you have LTC and LTJG ranks. It drove me crazy that those were missing from ENT for absolutely no reason.

As much fun as that would be, it's a lost cause. Would be better starting from scratch

They were my favourite characters on the main cast, Trip and T'Pol had a great dynamic and development, whilst Sato and Phlox never really got the love they should have. I did toy with making Tucker the Captain, but think he works better down in engineering where he could truly be in his element. Plus he and T'Pol would no doubt find themselves working on all sorts of technical solutions to problems the ship faces, in close quarters, who knows where that might end up going ;). The only other casting I'm sure about would be Idris Elba as Captain Chase, he's a great actor and deserves a far better role in Trek, something that would do him justice.

I loved seeing these two species back in Trek in ENT. They were pretty much blank slates that could be developed in numerous ways, whilst the antagonism they'd have towards one another would linger even after fighting alongside one another against the Romulans. I'm getting really tired of human-dominant crews, it's time that there was some proper diversity, even just in the background--save some money on overly flashy special effects and use it on makeup and prosthetics.

I know, that puzzled me. Plus having two Ensigns in prominent posts on the first warp five ship when Archer would've had the choice of pretty much anyone in Starfleet at the time always seemed a little odd to me.

I like the idea of humans starting out not knowing what the hell they are doing due to their arrogance and cockiness, it comes across as realistic. However I would make the main bridge crew much more diverse. As a nod to the fact the Russians were first in space I would make the captain Russian, XO remain Vulcan, the Chief Engineer from China or India, the helmsman from the USA (Tucker), Sato stay the same, Phlox stay the same, instead of the crew coming across as NASA in space. Bakula can have a role as an Admiral Archer who still hates Vulcans with the Vince Vaughn as the Earth Defence Minister Forrest who is more diplomatic

I really like this crew make up. Also, like the idea of them rushing out a bit, but wouldn't mind seeing them actually relying on the Vulcans (and others) for help rather than poorly negotiating with whom they encounter.

T'Pau instead of T'Pol. Who the hell is T'pol? No Scott Bacula. I mean how many things has he been in. Just a little too recognizable and spent. The ship - a P-52 - really? Seems great but isn't. No saucer would have been nice. Boy scout uniforms. No dark and gritty and clostrophobic confinement submarine. Makes me want to scream. More color, no cat suit. No shields? Really? No weapons officer, how about that? More AI and VR and holograms and robots. I could go on forever.

I'm working on the REAL version of Enterprise. This is my series bible so far:

    The Ship

    S.S. Enterprise UEV-47

A run of the mill science ship. Declaration class. There’s nothing really special about this ship. She has no namesake or legend to live up to. The Enterprise is designed to carry out multiple two year scientific research tours into deep space. She has already completed one tour under the command of Captain Lei. The Enterprise has a compliment of about eighty-four. Two thirds of those are civilian scientists while the other third are military personnel.

Extraordinary adventures await this ordinary ship.

    The Crew

Note: There are two characters I carried over from B&B’s Enterprise namely Trip and Hoshi. I have cut and paste some elements of their B&B bios.

    Captain Johnathan Stiles

An experienced UESPA officer, about thirty-eight years of age. His previous assignment was as executive officer of the military ship S.S. Lapu Lapu. He was born and raised in the former Nation of Deseret(great basin region of the US). In his youth Stiles was one of those children who would stare up at the stars longingly. Although faster than light travel has become more common, young Johnathan would imagine the endless possibilities at each of those points of light. From an early 21st century perspective he’s one of those damn lucky souls who was fortunate enough to be born when interplanetary travel was a reality.

At age twenty-two Stiles joined UESPA, knowing this was the fastest and best was to the stars. Stiles progressed through the ranks serving with distinction.

Stiles married his wife Emily at age thirty-one and currently has two young daughters. He spent his time between his executive officer post and taking command of the Enterprise, with his family. His greatest strength and weakness is his love for his family. He misses them terribly while he is out on duty, but they are also a great motivator for him. He is torn between his duty to the space service and his duty to his family. One could say they are the two great loves of his life.

Another of Stiles’ strengths/weaknesses is his curiosity. He’s willing to look into things a little deeper than he sometimes should. However, this attribute is what got him command of the Enterprise. UESPA knows that with a mixed crew of military and civilians Stiles will give the civilians a fair chance, while other officers may be more inclined to favor the military. As this is Stiles’ first assignment as Captain on a deep space vessel, he is eager to see what is out there and explore it in his way.

    Ntsais Lee

Lee is the executive officer of the Enterprise. She is thirty-four years young and was raised by a very traditional Hmong family. She, on the other hand, failed to see the purpose behind all of that archaic nonsense. This came to a head when, after graduating from college, her parents tried to sell her to the man she was dating. That was the last straw. She wanted to...

I've also been designed the ship in Blender:

Here's a closeup of the main module. The figure standing on it gives scale. However, the orientation of the deck is perpendicular to the hull of the ship. This allows for acceleration based artificial gravity.
the large dome on the front is the navigational deflector. The lower circle used to be the bridge window, but when I flipped the deck orientation it became the housing for a sensor array. Though the bridge will still be in the lower cylinder. That ball on the side is modular Mission Module.

Here's the classic view of the ship from the Recreation Deck of the NCC-1701 refit. The warp reactor is house in the aft half.

You can follow my progress here.

Start the show with the direction and energy they had in season 3.

I cannot properly express how stupid it is to have spent 30 years building a warp 5 engine, then putting a clueless schmuck like Archer in command and giving him NO guidelines and NO plan beyond "explore". They'd have spent those 30 years planning the mission in intricate detail, figuring out his route, which worlds they wanted contact with and exactly what to say should they come across aliens at various stages of evolution etc etc.

i would NOT of screwed it up by making the Klingons look the way that they did in TNG, and I would no of f-ed it up from the technology standpoint. That was REALLY Disappointing. Alot of stuff was just NOT "era appropriate" (For those of you WHINING about my point, go write a ST show set in the 30th Century, or something).

True, but honestly, you can see how the technology would get to TOS levels in 100 years. They may not have completely solved this problem, but they also didn't completely fall on their faces like the clowns running Discovery. Agreed on the Klingons.

Okay, but that shouldn't mean populating the bridge with the cast of Clueless.

Want to avoid arrogant and cocky, how about replace those attributes with clever, sharp witted and a bit of a mischievous mindset?

The captain and crew are more than aware that they're the new kids on the block and their ship is neither the toughest nor the strongest. So when they encounter a opponent who's biggest and badder, our captain verbally runs them in circles and blinds them with bullshit. All with a glint of humor in her eye.

At the end of episodes, the NX-01 warps away with ultimate victory, a cargo hold filled with goodies and a freshly signed treaty, leaving the opponent not completely sure about what just happened.

if the crew has intelligence and and the willingness to use it, then the ship doesn't need the biggest guns.

I’d also expect to see humans treated with a little more contempt. There’s an interstellar community out there, species and cultures are trading and mixing in Star Wars bars throughout the quadrant by the time humanity first stepped out.

The Vulcans were aware of us, considered us too primitive, the other space faring species would also have some view of us. To misquote the Doctor, The Humans are coming, Run!

The Enterprise crew might have gradually shown the Galaxy that we really are harmless, mostly.

    What would I do different?

    1. Get rid of all the writers and producers who made the show look and feel like TNG/VOY junior.

    2. Tell UPN to fuck off with trying to meddle with the show because they thought they knew what was best.

    3. Enough with the 9-11 analogies.

    4. Have a ship that actually looks like it's from the 22nd century instead of an Akira class ripoff.

    5. Have a cast that aren't just silly caricatures and stereotypes.

    6. Have an idea about what your show is actually supposed to be about before you produce it.

    7. No stupid frat-boy mentality with dumb decon-gel scenes and crewmembers running around in their underwear.

    8. No Vulcan 7-of-9 wannabes in catsuits who become masseuses.

    9. No Klingons.

    10. No TATV (that goes without saying.)

I would have set it back immediately after the events of First Contact. Appearances from Zephram and Lily. Most of the show would be more about colonization, early conflicts that led to the U.E., using the new power of warp flight to find cures for diseases.. going all over the solar system.

At least one of them is, just as one is homosexual and another is bisexual, but since such details don't define who the characters are I didn't include it.
