The Bantha in the room--Leia's role in Episode IX

I thought it was already confirmed anyway that she wasn't going to be in Episode 9 anyway?

You are correct.

This "Meryl Streep as Leia" thing isn't a rumor; it's some well-meaning but misguided fans not being able to let go of Leia and spitballing an idea that because Streep had previously impersonated Carrie Fisher the person, she could do the same thing for Carrie Fisher's most iconic character, Leia.

When did Meryl Streep "impersonate" Carrie Fisher?

If you're talking about the film Postcards from the Edge, Ms. Streep played a character named Suzanne Vale, who was the main character in the semi-autobiographical story written by Ms. Fisher.

I think so eone has me too ed part of this...but is there enough u used footage that could used for certain shots, and others being behind the fAce shots with a vocal double...anx maybe some facial shots being a telepathic talk with Kylo or. Rey?

They definitely need to do something...the set up in The Last Jedi could have swapped Leia and the Vice Admiral....

The last thing Carrie Fisher filmed was her part in The Last Jedi, but even if that weren't the case, it's already been confirmed that Lucasfilm is not going to recreate her likeness using CGI OR try and create an appearance for her in Episode IX using cobbled-together archive footage.

And, yes, they could've found a way to reshoot The Last Jedi in response to Carrie's passing, but opted not to out of respect for her and because they felt showcasing her final role as she'd filmed it was the most fitting tribute they could pay her.

After having seen Last Jedi, I think it's likely that the next episode in the series will have us jumping forward in time quite a bit. I could be totally wrong, but I don't know that there would be much of an interesting story to tell if we pick up right where we left off. I think we'll be dropped into a situation where the resistance has had time to build up their numbers and strength and they're hiding out on some planet. Poe, Finn, and Rey have taken the lead and Finn and Rose are now a "thing." Actually, I see it being very similar to the beginning of Empire Strikes Back.

If they do go this route, or a similar route that has a big time jump, then I think they will have Leia die in between the movies and we read about it in the opening crawl or learn about it in the very first few scenes (maybe even start with a funeral scene). We learn that she did something heroic, or eventually succumbed to an ailment that plagued her after her float in space, etc. I wish that wasn't the way that her story ends, but I'm not really seeing a better way.

Writing off Leia in the crawl would be the dumbest way possible to handle the situation. Scrap an entire wealth of story lines because they don't want to recast / CGI a character? I'm pretty sure we would all understand why they did it (recast), and it would harbour no disrespect to Fisher (in fact, casually tossing out the character does the exactly opposite).

TFA was Han's story, TLJ was Luke's, and Episode IX was most likely meant to be Leia's story via redemption of Kylo Ren (a mother/son relationship overcoming the Light/Dark side battle). It would be a mistake to not follow through with this.

I am totally not convinced Kylo Ren can be redeemed, and I could not see this story happening even if Carrie Fisher were still alive and able to do Episode IX.

I think with JJ at the helm, we will likely see a redemption a-la Anakin Skywalker (e.g. he sacrifices himself to save Leia).

I really don't see it. The guy is now more or less the Ruler of the Galaxy and is probably enjoying the fact he gets to flay people who disappoint him with his lightsabre and use the Force to slap General Hux around like a little bitch just for the fun of it. Why is he sacrificing himself for his mother, who is leading the only opposition to his authority?

Dunno why we would sacrifice himself for Leia, but he did elect not to fire on her in TLJ; it was only his wingmen who took out the capital ship command center.

Still, choosing not to kill his mother is not the same thing as sacrificing his life for her. Especially after years (presumably) of ruling the galaxy.

Once again, it has already been confirmed that Leia will not be appearing in Episode IX in any capacity.

End. Of. Story.
No one suggested otherwise since your last post. The most recent posts have simply been discussing a hypothetical scenario concerning Kylo Ren.

Why did Vader sacrifice himself for Luke when he was more or less the ruler of the galaxy, and got off Force choking the crap out of people? It's the Star Wars formula!

Yeah, after The Last Jedi I really can't see him being redeemed. Empire set up the potential for Vader to be redeemed with the reveal that he was Anakin Skywalker, but TLJ seemed to do the opposite for Kylo Ren. He was conflicted in The Force Awakens, but by the end of TLJ he seemed to have resolved most of that conflict and gone full on Dark Side.

Kylo's whole arc in TLJ is that he doesn't *want* to be redeemed. He's not some tragic figure like Anakin who turned to evil out of fear and desperation. He did what he did because that's what he wanted. He's a vicious, selfish little gobshite because that's what he's chosen to be.

So no, he most likely won't be redeemed in Episode IX.
