Seems like there ought to be one thread for these, so anyone interested in suffering through/enjoying them can find a lot of them easily. THE IMPERIALS STRIKE BACK For starters, here's a super early kid-made Star Wars fanfilm finished the year before The Empire Strikes Back was released (but clearly the title was known). TURN ON CC to see subtitles of the dialog since the original audio cassette with the sound was lost. Made over two years, you can see costumes change and the kids get bigger. But you have to admire the effort made to do all the ship shots and cockpits and everything.
Next up... Star Trix: The Flick Art Binninger's epic claymation ST:TMP spoof. The video here is a bit murky given how it was transfered. I am hoping Art will send me the actual film so I can digitize it properly on the Lasergraphics Scanstation at the Internet Archive.
This Space: 1999 fan film by Yves Lapointe and Sylvain Labrosse is very impressive. The thread on this from before, which you may recall: https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/cosmos-1999-1979-8mm-stop-motion.233372/
STAR TRIX the earlier years: WARNING: Their Mr. Sulu character is designed to look like a racial stereotype. *sigh* Lazy "humor". A blog about the making of these epics.
Ambitious for the period and attention to detail. It must have been a blast to work on that film. I do like how their biggest Millennium Falcon model is the actual MPC model kit, and not the Kenner play vehicle. The model was as close to accurate as one could hope for in that era, and its lean shape lent itself to the sweeping moves you were not going to get with that Kenner toy. Two interesting things about the Space: 1999 fan film: one, it reminds me of how the series was still popular in 1979, years after its cancellation, and they made the wise choice of using (what appear to be) the Palitoy 8-inch action figures, which were pretty accurate in the head sculpting and costumes. In any case, love it!
Garry J. Asseltine's Star Trash The Moving Picture. WARNING: They "blackfaced" (minstrel show-like) someone to play their Uhura character. Ugh. Adm. Quirk, Mr. Spook and the crew set off intercept the alien intruder "Mardeaux" in this 1980 TMP sendup. A Ryerson University 'studio production' by Radio/TV Arts students, Toronto, Canada.
Yeah. I edited the posts to warn people about those. I am amazed at how often people would go to the well on such ethnic and racial stereotypes, as if they were automatic laugh getters. And blackface... even then you had to be a little thick to not understand how loaded that is/was. Hell, people complained about it over Birth Of A Nation!
From Critter Kingsford Productions, 1986, Star Trek VI, Wrath of Boz, Remastered (22:02) Star Trek Robot Masters based on 1979 Peter Pan Record and Mego, (13:49) 1986 Star Trek Shorts (21:33)
Okay, not an ACTUAL antique but a fun one done in the style of a silent movie by our very own @spockboy
Holy moly, when you said "blackface," I assumed you just meant makeup, but that's full-on Al Jolson / prewar cartoon territory! Yikes! Otherwise, these are gold.
