Off-topic, but a Facebook friend of mine saw Weird Al in concert last night in Indianapolis. Apparently, he did an amazing cover of "Rebel Yell" complete with Billy Idol snarl.

More donor patches are about to be shipped from a 2015 Indiegogo campaign. Obviously no "two-day" delivery with Axanar. :)

Seemingly there is a "Fleets of Axanar" community in Star Trek: Online:

Some of the patches were actually designed by one of the artists at Cryptic (STO's developers) coincidentally. He's distanced himself from Axanar for obvious reasons.

Dare I say that it sounds like everyone involved is at least making an effort to be reasonable? Really, the title and using clips from a real show would be a red flag any time. Those should be fixable. It will be interesting to see if CBS tries to hold firm on the 30 minute/2 episode time limit.

Unsurprising. Given everything that's transpired he should have known not to use that title or images and voices of the actors. That was just dumb.

Yeah, that was a mistake. Even before the Axanar drama and the guidelines that still would have seemed like a bad idea to me.
It is nice to see that CBS appears to be being reasonable in this situation.
I guess this is proof once again that the Axanar drama all happened because of Peters's behavior, and was not because of any issues CBS has with fan films in general.

You can't call it Star Trek, you can't use footage from real Star Trek, and you've got to keep it to under the time limit. The studio might've been able to ignore the time limit. They might even have ignored calling it Star Trek. But they cannot let you use footage with three actors from TNG. Otherwise I suspect they'd have the Screen Actors Guild raising hell.

exactly. and any notion of 'oh, I thought I was under a grandfather clause' is bullshit, misdirection and spin.

There was no Grandfather clause per say - As I recall in all the interviews about it, Van Critters basically said that if a group had a fan film that had completed or was in the very last stages of post production and released min the next few days, they wouldn't be jumping all over said group; but that's not the same as "If you started production prior to the Guidelines being published, you're okay" which is what a lot of groups tried to claim.

And do please define "started production". Can I say that if I jot down a few notes on the back of an envelope with ideas for a script plot, is that "started production"???

I believe the line was drawn on where the current productions were in the process - Continues for example, I believe, was all shot and being edited..

CBS itself would have been in trouble using that footage without compensating the actors.

I have a lot of notes pre guidelines, So I'm good right?
I can almost hear Randy shaking his head noway and the thumb goes down.
