The Bantha in the room--Leia's role in Episode IX

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. I can't see her playing much of a role this way, but at least we'll still be getting some Leia.

No CGI doesn't rule out a stand-in shot from behind, or a soundalike actress recording dialogue for Leia. Her confrontation with Kylo Ren may just have to be over the radio, and transplanted to a space battle where Ren can either blow up Leia's ship or turn against the First Order ships around him. Not ideal, but better than nothing.

To each their own. I would prefer nothing and have a different story.

I don't think they could just have had Leia disappear between movies or claim she died off screen. They needed to do something, and I'm sure they'll do it respectfully while still getting it to make sense.

Well if they're going to go the recasting route, is there really anyone else who could do it?

*It's one of those things you read and say to yourself "Well, duh!"

I didn't believe a recast could work- would take people out of the movie. But, when I saw the Streep rumor today, well, that one might be the only way. While I hate Streep's politics, she IS the finest actress of our age. I'd bet she could play Fisher playing Leia convincingly enough to not be distracting. Might actually work.

I would prefer they recast the role and give Leia's storyline proper closure, instead of leaving her fate up in the air, or having her die between episodes, or creating another CG abomination like they did with Tarkin in Rogue One.

Streep is an excellent actress and she and Fisher were great friends. I'd be down for this if it turns out to be true.

Interesting. While the more I see it, actually don't like the look of the CGI Leia in Rogue One, I have to this day never had a single issue with the CGI Tarkin.
.

Gods, no, I hope this isn't true. Use creative writing to work around Fisher's absence, not any form of recasting or CGI masking or anything like that.

Although I would prefer Leia be left out of the movie altogether, if they are going to have her, recasting is definitely preferable to CG duplicate. CG Tarkin freaked me the hell out in Rogue One.

It would be a bit weird to see someone else as Leia after TFA and TLJ, but I think Streep could pull it off.

If they would recast, they should go all the way, and do it the old fashioned way, where it's a straight up recast. As opposed to getting someone that looks like leia, then using a digital mask, and voice, etc.

And if that were the case, I nominate Natalie Portman.

As a side note, there have been articles reporting on Lucasfilm negotiations with Carrie Fisher's family to gain the rights of using her likeness in future films, and they've made full scans and "cgi doubles" for her already, which were already used in the last jedi. So the likely prediction for Episode 9 is cgi Leia with very limited screen time.

Meryl Streep to replace Carrie Fisher in episode 9? No offense to Meryl Streep who's an amazing actress, but no. I would honestly rather they cast someone snd give them a CGI "mask", or find a way to write out Leia altogether.

I note there's no attributed source for this supposed rumour, which means it's almost certainly 100% pure clickbait bullshit.

Also, there's no way in hell LF would recast that part.
