Wow, I don't know what show you guys watched. In my book Babylon 5 was easily the best SF show of the '90s. It was written at a whole other level than anything Trek could offer, on DS9 or otherwise.
B5 was actually pretty monotonous and narrow, which is one reason the fandom for it has diminished over time.
I mean, does TBBT even do B5 jokes? Oh, wait, I guess they do...
Of the '90s, sure. Unfortunately, B5's big claim to fame was a tightly-plotted serialized story, and that's not really a novelty anymore. Add to the troubles it had originally being in Trek's shadow, then the failed attempts and bad luck with the spin-offs, the trouble with keeping it in circulation because of the HD issue, and the terrible luck the cast (as a whole, not every single person individually) has had over the past twenty years, and I'm afraid B5 isn't set for a long, happy afterlife in fandom heaven.Wow, I don't know what show you guys watched. He didn't say what it was derivative of.
They're a Warner Bros show, so they got to synergize.Though I don't think they've done too many in recent seasons. I think The Drew Carey Show, also a WB production, made B5 references too.B5 was actually pretty monotonous and narrow, which is one reason the fandom for it has diminished over time.

Actually committing genocide. Killing Federation citizens to serve their own ends, and the like. For that matter, Starfleet admirals, a Vulcan ambassador, and reportedly the Federation Council were just recently on board with the idea of committing genocide on Qo'nos in order to win the war. Offensive and implausible as that story beat was, IMHO, if we take it as given we're left to wonder what kind of tactics remain that would mark Section 31 as even more extreme.
They are. They are not even real Star Trek.If this is fan wank so was every series after TOS
No, no I don't.But you get fed up REALLY FAST it they serve you the same dishes again and again.
And you won't. The past several months of discussion have saddened me that pretty much DISCO will remain the punching bag of the franchise until the next iteration.I wish the writers were that coherent and persistent about other aspects of the show and I definitely don't understand why some people seem to be unhappy about it.
Um, Section 31 first appeared in STMy issue is less that it's appearing (though, Jesus, there are other bits of lore to mine, and more appropriate ones than 31 for "Starfleet Intelligence, but all badass-like"), and more that DSC seems to be following STID's lead in retconning Section 31 from being a small conspiracy or cabal to an all-but-official government agency. At this rate, we're not too far from seeing an establishing shot of Section 31 Headquarters in San Francisco with a big bas relief seal on the front inscribed with a latin motto about how awesome war crimes are.
Oh, you mean that it demonstrates that trekkies on a Trek forum will talk about a piece of Trek TV news for some hours after it's announced?
Yeah, it totally proves that.
I can prove that Redskins fans root for the Redskins when they play the Cowboys, if you like.
You're grasping at straws.![]()
Um, Section 31 first appeared in STS9 was was FASR from being shown as a small conspiracy cabal <--- It seemed ful;ly backed by Star Fleet and Star Fleet intelligence. Just go watch DS9 - "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" (Admiral Ross was a full and active participant in 'playing/using' Doctopr Bashir along with Slone.

I love that there's this much discussion over a 2-min bit.
Shows just how "unpopular" DSC really is, huh?

Or at least something similarWe are going yo see TOS uniforms next season, at least for the Enterprise crew.
Every Star Trek series is fan wank. When all other variables are controlled for, suckage increases in direct proportion to the amount of fanwank a series contains.
