I liked the time frame because the uniforms the cast wore more in tuned to TOS. Also, I think Into Darkness uniforms were practical for extended star travel than ones seen in Beyond. ID was a meh film but I did like the stuff I saw in the movie, the aquatic outfits, the security confinement area, and the sfx present through out the movie.

I think a smaller vessel with a young crew who journeys to new worlds and adventures would be quite fun, and I would watch it. All I ask is the ship to look more grandeur like what Matt Jefferies had done. Gosh, it's been a long time since I'd seen a Trek design vessel which looked beautiful. I can't bother with Discovery if the ship is as ugly as 1701-E, and NX-01.

Hollywood doesn't know how to design a ship which should represent... STAR TREK!!!

personally, i think the kelvin timeline enterprise is one of the most beautiful ships in the franchise (i know i'm basically alone in that here).

it's funny you mention the uniforms in into darkness... while i love the michael kaplan take on the TOS outfit, i found the switch to skinny jeans in star trek into darkness kind of hilarious. i much prefer the looser fit of the 09 film and the more formal uniforms from star trek beyond. but i digress.

A T.V series about Starfleet and all the politics going on while the ships are exploring. They can come up with an in universe reason why the organisation is still dominated by humans 100 years after the Federation was set up. And explore how Marcus managed to hoodwink so many of them.

    So, West Wing in space?

TV execs would tell you, West Wing on Earth is infinitely cheaper to make. That's why Star Trek tends to stick close to the core concept.

Starfleet is based in San Francisco not in space

But a show set in a present-day army or navy will always be cheaper to produce than a show set in a fantastic future San Francisco quasi-military Starfleet compound.

Maybe if Apple buys Trek you could have one season like that. In any other scenario. Forget it.

My ideal Star Trek show ideas have long been either a politics and economics show or a civilian show. I've wanted to see the reconstruction periods for WWIII and the Romulan War, particularly how the governmental and economic systems were set up. But I'd also be interested in a civilian show, whether planet or ship based, along the lines of Star Trek: Aurora, perhaps. If it's in the Kelvin Timeline, then I suppose it would be in the 2260s though, so I'd probably say, pick one of the civilian outposts in TOS, say Janus VI, and do a show with that as a setting.

But the DSC series is set in the Kelvin reality! :techman: And if it isn't then it sure isn't the TOS universe for sure! :p

It has to be. The eye test is proof alone. There's nothing in that show which is remotely the look, feel, and tone of the classic Star Trek. DSC in JJ's universe is easier to digest.

visually yes. but tonally, it bears as much resemblance to the kelvin timeline as the prime timeline.

That's an argument which belongs to the DISCO forum, folks, and I'd much rather it stayed there. :)

This scene is why Discovery is entirely incompatible with the Kelvin Trek universe.
"Since we learned of their existence the Klingon Empire has conquered and occupied two planets that we know of, fired on our ships half a dozen times."

Well there was no war between the Klingons and the Federation in TOS until Errand of Mercy so it sure ain't in that reality! The mods have asked us to take this subject to the DSC forum anyways!

I’m with you both also! :) I love the Kelvin Universe 1701! along with the TMP Refit, it’s my favourite. Simply Stunning! :)

It’s also high on the list of reasons why I would like to see more Kelvin-verse Trek movies. It’s a beautiful looking timeline, and I would love to spend more time there, cinematically.
